Monique From ‘Love During Lockup’ Explains Why She Decided to Share Painful Story of Losing Her Baby Girl: ‘I’m Not Alone’ [Exclusive]
Monique is opening up about a devastating chapter of her life in Friday’s episode of Love During Lockup.
In the February 13 episode of the We TV series, the 36-year-old influencer reveals that she’s considering having a child with her incarcerated boyfriend, Titus.
“That’s a big thing for me because I didn’t see myself having a kid with nobody since I lost my daughter,” she says.
Monique says her daughter’s death was ‘the most traumatic experience’ of her life
Monique goes on to explain that she and her daughter’s father used to argue “every day all day.” She suspects the constant fighting triggered her premature labor when she was six months pregnant.
“I was so stressed out,” she says.
Tragically, Maliah died just a few days after her birth.
“Losing my daughter was the most traumatic experience I ever went through in my life,” Monique says. “I went through that experience alone. When my daughter died, I was in that room alone.”
“I think people don’t know how traumatizing it is to see your baby take its last breath,” she continues. “It definitely made me really cautious of mem who I’ll allow in my life.”
On Friday, Monique shared a clip from the upcoming episode on her Instagram.
“Watching this makes me so sad because I know my life would be so different if my baby was still here,” she wrote. “I miss my baby.”
‘Love During Lockup’ star wants people to know her story
Revisiting Maliah’s death is painful for Monique. Why open up about the loss for Love During Lockup viewers? She told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that she wants people to better understand her life. She also knows that many other women have their own experiences of infant loss.
“It’s crazy how so many women has been through that who had that experience as far as losing a child so young,” she said. “And then I feel like a lot of people really don’t know my backstory, my life. So even though that’s a personal moment for me, I decided to share it just because I know I’m not alone when it comes to that.”
Years later, the wound of losing her daughter is still raw.
“Her birthday was a few days ago and I really thought I healed from that situation,” she shared. “But I feel like that’s something that I don’t think I would ever heal from. It was just a rough week overall.”
Love During Lockup airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on We TV. It streams the same day on All Reality and next day on AMC+.
