Spooky season is here! The scariest time of the year calls for binge watching some of your favorite Halloween flicks. Whether you’re a horror buff who can’t get enough of slasher films or looking for family-friendly fare like Hocus Pocus, there’s a movie out there for everyone. But what are America’s favorite Halloween movies?

The team at CryptoCasinos analyzed Google search data, streaming platform demand rankings, and IMDb ratings to discover the top 10 Halloween movies Americans love most. The results might surprise you. Classic horror movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Psycho were noticeably absent. Instead, the list is dominated by cult favorite flicks – including three starring goth icon Christina Ricci – from the ‘80s and ‘90s. 

‘Sleepy Hollow’

Tim Burton’s 1999 adaptation of Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” is the 10th-most-popular Halloween film in the U.S. It averages 165,000 monthly searches and has a seasonal popularity score of 25.25. It stars Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane and Ricci as his love interest, Katrina Anne Van Tassel. 

Sleepy Hollow is streaming on Paramount+, Kanopy, and Hoopla. 

‘The Addams Family’

This lighthearted tale of a creepy, kooky family has been a fan-favorite since its release in 1991. The movie – based on the comics by Charles Addams and the 1960s TV series – stars Angelica Houston as Morticia Addams, Raul Julia as Gomez Addams, Jimmy Workman as Pugsley Addams, and Ricci as Wednesday Addams. It averages 246,000 monthly searches and has a seasonal popularity score of 25.43.

The Addams Family is streaming on Paramount+ and Kanopy.

‘The Crow’

Brandon Lee (who was killed during an on-set accident while filming) plays a murdered man who comes back from the dead to enact vigilante justice in 1994’s The Crow. The moody comic book adaptation is a cult favorite that’s spawned multiple sequels, but the original is by far the most memorable. It averages 301,00 monthly searches and has a seasonal popularity score of 30.63.

The Crow is streaming on Peacock, Kanopy, Hoopla, and The Criterion Channel.

‘Casper’

Ricci’s third entry on the list of Halloween favorites is a kid-friendly movie about the teenage daughter of a paranormal researcher who moves into a haunted mansion that’s also inhabited by a friendly ghost (Devon Sawa). It averages 201,000 monthly searches and has a seasonal popularity score of 30.71.

Casper is streaming on Netflix. 

‘Donnie Darko’ 

A troubled teenager named Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) starts having visions of a man in a rabbit costume after narrowly avoiding a freak accident in this mind-bending movie from 2001. It averages 301,000 monthly searches and has a seasonal popularity score of 31.89.

Donnie Darko is streaming on Hulu, Kanopy, Netflix, and Pluto TV.

‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’

Winona Ryder reprised her role as Lydia Deetz in 2024’s sequel to Beetlejuice. Now a mom to a teenager, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), she has to turn to the mischievous Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) for help when her daughter accidentally opens a portal to the afterlife. It averages 1.5 million monthly searches and has a seasonal popularity score of 49.88.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is streaming on Netflix and HBO Max. 

‘Hocus Pocus’

A trio of witches (played by Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker) are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy in this cult favorite Disney flick from 1993 that also stars Omri Katz and Thora Birch. It averages 673,000 monthly searches and has a seasonal popularity score of 60.36.

Hocus Pocus is streaming on Disney+.

‘The Batman’ 

Robert Pattinson is Bruce Wayne in this noir-influenced take on the Batman story.  When a serial killer starts leaving a trail of bodies in Gotham, Batman investigates, leading him to discover connections between the city’s criminal underworld and its powerful elites. It averages 1 million monthly searches and has a seasonal popularity score of 72.68.

The Batman is streaming on HBO Max.

‘Ghostbusters’ 

Who you gonna call? This supernatural comedy directed by Ivan Reitman has been a fan favorite since its release in 1984, thanks in large part to its core group of stars, including Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, and Ernie Hudson. It averages 673,000 monthly searches and has a seasonal popularity score of 75.62.
