Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez’s marriage is often described as grounded and genuine. Fans adore the way the pair talks about each other and how they remain happy in their marriage. However, some people online have wondered how Blanco managed to win the singer over in the first place. The 38-year-old recently joked that it was not ‘black magic.’

The music producer recently appeared on the Today show to promote his upcoming book. When the conversation turned to his marriage, Blanco gave some tips and insights. According to Billboard, he joked, “I didn’t use, like, black magic or anything.” Instead, he claimed he “just was nice.”

Blanco continued, “It’s like understanding your partner and being able to talk about things, and have an open dialogue.” He went on to share more details about his marriage. He said, “Yeah, we’re in a really good spot, and I’m very fortunate. And I think, again, not being a d— and being nice to people put her in my orbit.”

The music producer reportedly detailed his career in his book. He shared how he urges readers to embrace failure and learn from his mistakes. The music producer was only a teenager when he began working and later collaborated with big names.

Gomez and Blanco had worked together for years before their relationship turned romantic in 2023. The couple collaborated on the pop star’s album Revival in 2015. They joined hands once again in 2019 for her track I Can’t Get Enough. They officially began dating in mid-2023, and in a few months, by the end of the year, Gomez confirmed her relationship in public.

Blanco proposed in December 2024. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in Santa Barbara on September 27, 2025.

The music producer previously shared that he had been close friends with his now-wife for years. Their relationship eventually evolved from friendship into romance. Blanco called Gomez the “most beautiful wife in the world” and shared an anecdote about their first date.

He revealed that he did not realize he was on a date with Gomez until it had already begun. Blanco recalled, “I had no idea,” before adding, “And then, like, I’m on the date, and now I’m like, ‘Is this a date?’ And she’s just like, ‘Yeah, like, what do you mean? I wore this out…’”

Blanco and Gomez are set to celebrate their first wedding anniversary later this month. While they are yet to share how the year went by, the Only Murders in the Building star previously detailed what the first month of their newlywed bliss looked like.

According to People, she shared that the first month of marriage was like a “dream” in an interview for Apple Music. The interviewer asked Gomez whether marriages get better after months and years into the future. Agreeing with her, the singer replied, “It’s been just a dream so far.”

Gomez clarified that she was aware of the challenges that a marriage comes with. She shared, “And I know it’ll come with ebbs and flows, but [he’s] the most beautiful person I could do that with.”
