‘Greatest Gift’: Katy Perry Reveals Brutal Toll of Orlando Bloom Split Before Finding Justin Trudeau
Katy Perry recently reflected on her last relationship with Orlando Bloom in a rare moment. The singer is currently in a relationship with Justin Trudeau and went through her breakup while on tour. She finally broke her silence on her broken engagement and revealed that it was the “hardest time.”
The Dark Horse singer went on tour last April, a few months before her reps broke the news of her separation from Bloom. According to People, Perry admitted, “Look, last year was really hard.” At the time, her daughter joined her on tour and saw her mother go through the breakup. “She’s seeing her mother in her purpose, and that’s good for her; she sees her mom being strong. But also, not every day was easy,” Perry shared.

Perry was in Australia when the news of her split broke. Besides struggling with the breakup, she was also feeling left out. “It was probably the hardest time. My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away,” she said. Despite the heartbreak, Perry found a silver lining in her split from Bloom as she said, “But then my angels went to work. They really showed up.”
She called meeting the love of her life, Trudeau, the “greatest gift from this tour.” “I got to meet Justin on tour, and then things shifted,” Perry said of meeting the former Canadian Prime Minister in the same month.

Perry and Bloom reportedly first met at a Golden Globes afterparty in January 2016. According to Billboard, they flirted and danced at the celebration and famously fought over In-N-Out burgers. The former couple did not take long to make their relationship Instagram official and did so in May 2016.
Like any other celebrity couple, their relationship also hit a roadblock in 2017 when they split for a few months. Two years later, the Troy star popped the question before Perry on Valentine’s Day. While remaining engaged, they welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, in August 2020. The former pair halted their wedding plans at the time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and never went through with them, as they called off the engagement last June.
During the interview, Perry noted that she would not have stayed in the relationship for a little less than a decade if “there weren’t really important things to learn.” She shared how each relationship acts as a teacher, but she had to let go of the last one when she needed to move forward in life.
The 41-year-old singer then gushed about wanting a “legendary love” for her. She even told her therapist that love was the “missing puzzle piece” in her life. However, it eventually showed up with Trudeau.
As she wrapped up her tour on a successful note, the Teenage Dreams crooner noted that she would soon get back to writing more songs. The songstress said, “I’m living my life,” before admitting, “so I can write about my life.”
Perry and Trudeau were first spotted dining together at a restaurant last month. While their PDA-packed photographs from a yacht were released, the couple did not make their relationship official on social media until late 2025. The pair do not shy away from public appearances and often speak fondly about each other.
