‘I’m Prophecy’: Britney Spears Fires Back at Critics, Claims Young Pop Stars Copied Her
Britney Spears added another note in her Instagram diary, and this time she took a dig at young pop stars. The singer, who often writes her heart out on social media, recalled what all she could do in her early years. She also pointed out that many younger women have adopted everything she was known for. However, she claimed that she was real and they were not.
The Toxic crooner dropped a new video of her dancing in a white shirt and a sweater vest in her home. She paired the layered top with a mini grey skirt and tied her blonde locks in two low ponytails. She danced to Chris Isaak’s Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing.
Spears called out Gen-Z pop stars, writing, “A lot of girls last year have definitely done the complete image I used to have when I was younger.” She admitted to being “cool” with the same. However, she soon argued, claiming that her image was “real.”
She then reflected back on her early days as a pop star. The Gimme More singer wrote, “I was that nerd in school that was real as hell.” Spears continued, “The world has become fake. people who are actually real get hated on… which is a shame.. Ok.” Everything she listed made her feel that she should also try harder in the world and do some “fake thing.” What popped into her mind at the time was opting for “fake nails.”
Spears noted that she had previously received similar advice. “All my guys’ friends say just be fake.. I need a bad ass girlfriend who can teach me how to lie,” she continued. The reason why the singer asked for a girlfriend was that she is “too kind in real life.”
The 44-year-old then leaned toward reminding the world what she has done to those who think her career is over. “To all the girls who say I’m History… I’M PROPHECY. I’m the original apple B school girl who did backflips and back handsprings and fell in love with people on every set I ever went to,” Spears noted.
From being the Princess of Pop to spending 13 years under conservatorship, Spears’ career was filled with highs and lows. Looking back at her early years in the industry, she recalled that she was so “young and naive.” “The world has been hateful to me, and I’m still standing, living, and dreaming,” she added.
Concluding the lengthy caption, Spears told her fans that she will soon show them glimpses of her pictures from Italy. She also threw in a piece of advice for her fans, saying, “No makeup makes you look WAY younger.”
While she did not name any of the young pop stars, her lengthy caption is being linked to them. According to New York Times, the new generation of singers like Sabrina Carpenter, Addison Rae, and Tate McRae have drawn their personalities and style from Spears.
Carpenter’s 2025 VMAs performance was widely compared to that of Spears’ stage performances. On the other hand, Rae has openly admitted to being greatly influenced by the pop star. McRae was flattered to be compared to the Princess of Pop herself.
