Selena Gomez recently turned heads at the 2026 Emmy Awards in a gold gown. While she drew attention with her look, the Wizards of Waverly Place star also reignited speculation about Ozempic use and possible cosmetic procedures. A plastic surgeon recently doubled down on what procedures the singer may have had, suggesting a “fresh Botox.”

The Only Murders in the Building star arrived at the star-studded event in a strapless gold mirrorball gown by Louis Vuitton. The floor-length gown featured a structured bodice that cinched her waist. Its mermaid-style bottom accentuated the overall ensemble. 

Gomez opted for a soft-glam makeup with a pinkish hue. She styled her hair in soft waves and let it down. Several social media users claimed that the Ice Cream crooner showed signs of dramatic weight loss with the help of Ozempic. Some also noted that Gomez’s face looked different from previous appearances.

According to OK!, plastic surgeon and CREO Clinic Medical Director Dr. Omar Tilo claimed that he noticed subtle signs of a cosmetic procedure in Gomez’s latest appearance. He suggested that Botox was one possible explanation for the difference around her eyes.

Tilo said, “What people seem to be responding to most strongly in these photographs is the asymmetry around the eyes.” The plastic surgeon clarified that he had not treated Gomez. “One eye appears slightly more closed than the other, and because the eyes are such an important reference point when we recognise a face, even quite a small difference can make somebody look surprisingly different,” he added.

However, the medical expert added that it was not possible to determine whether Gomez had undergone a procedure based on a single red-carpet appearance. He said Botox was a “possible explanation” for the difference around her eyes.

Several X users also commented on Gomez’s looks, with one asking, “What happened to her face?” “She looks different every time I see her, and not in a good way,” another claimed. A third one wrote, “She looks worse than a naturally aged 50-year-old woman.”

An X user took a brutal jibe at her look, saying, “The Selena Gomez bot needs to be rebooted. Her eyes are running on different operating systems.” Another user agreed and wrote, “Right!!!!  I thought her eyes were so weird!”

Some fans also turned up on the internet to defend Gomez’s allegedly changed appearance. They reminded the trolls of her health condition and how she faced the consequences of lupus for years.

The criticism is not new for Gomez, who has previously addressed fluctuations in her weight. According to Us Weekly, the Emilia Pérez star previously explained during a TikTok Live that her lupus medication causes her weight to fluctuate. She said, “When I’m taking it, I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally. When I’m off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight.”

Gomez further mentioned that it is always the women in the industry who face such rumors, but not men. She also said she would prioritize her health over achieving a certain physique. “I’d rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they’re what helps me,” she added.
