Gwyneth Paltrow has spent decades in Hollywood carefully curating a polished and proper, if somewhat pretentious, persona. Sure, the Goop founder has been accused of being out of touch and a bit tone-deaf in the past, but she has never been accused of being outright mean or petty. That is about to change. A new biography, which Paltrow doesn’t appear to be officially connected to, claims the actor had plenty of unkind words to say about Brad Pitt following their split. She was, reportedly, bothered by him moving on, claiming he had terrible taste in women and once suggested he was “dumber than a sack of s**t.”

Brad Pitt’s romances and subsequent marriage upset the Goop founder

Brad Pitt’s decision to move on after the end of his engagement to Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t sit right with her. As Pitt moved on, Paltrow reportedly stewed. At least, that’s what a new biography written by Amy Odell says. The book, Gwyneth: A Biography, relies on interviews with those close to Paltrow to get the real story behind the actor and businesswoman. Not all of the anecdotes are flattering. According to Odell, Paltrow bemoaned her ex’s “taste in women” and admitted to being upset that he had moved on so quickly and with relative ease.

Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow met in 1994 while filming Se7en and quickly became a high-profile pair, capturing media attention. They were ready to go all-in on the romance, too. In 1996, they announced their engagement. At the time, Pitt famously called Paltrow “the love of my life” during an acceptance speech. The following year, before they made it down the aisle, they split. Paltrow later admitted she wasn’t ready for marriage and took responsibility for the breakup. Pitt moved on quickly with Aniston. The pair were set up in 1998 and made their romance public in 1999. They announced their engagement the same year.

Gwyneth Paltrow called Brad Pitt dumb, according to a biographer

Even after Pitt had tied the knot and seemingly moved on for good from Paltrow, she couldn’t help but talk about him. According to Odell, Paltrow became particularly petty towards her former partner, taking swipes at him while out with colleagues and friends well after he and Aniston were officially together.

According to the author, Paltrow once remarked that Pitt was “dumber than a sack of s**t,” when his name was brought up at a dinner with friends. The author claims the comment was made to Aerin Lauder. The conversation, which allegedly took place over a business meeting, happened in 2000, the year Pitt married Aniston. It’s unclear exactly why Paltrow believes Pitt is dumb, but in public, she has always said nice things about him, even calling him a “wonderful person” at one point.

Is Gwyneth Paltrow friends with Jennifer Aniston?

Gwyneth Paltrow has yet to comment on the book or the allegations levied against her within it, but she will likely need to do some damage control. Her remarks on Pitt’s taste in women feel especially cold, considering she and Aniston are, allegedly, friends. In more public comments, Paltrow has had nothing but kind things to say about the Murder Mystery star.

Jennifer Aniston Might Be Dating, but Marriage Probably Isn’t in the Cards

In 2023, Paltrow answered a Q&A in which she revealed her close bond with Jennifer Aniston. She called the famed actor “so sweet” and insisted she was “lucky” to have her in her life. Aniston and Paltrow’s friendship has been well-documented. Aniston attended Paltrow’s 2018 engagement party. Paltrow has shared photos of the two together over the years. That closeness might change now, though. Still, it’s entirely possible Aniston agrees with Paltrow’s assessment of Pitt and didn’t take her words personally.

Gwyneth: The Biography is set to be released on July 29.
