Nick Reiner’s lawyers the deaths of his parents devastated him
Police arrested Nick for the murder his parents in December 2025. Shortly after their deaths, police arrested him. He has pleaded not guilty, and is now seeking money from a trust fund established in his name. His lawyers argue that he deserves he should have received when he turned 30.
“Nick loved his parents, and he is devastated by their deaths,” they said in a probate petition. “But the facts about what did and did not happen to them are not at issue in this Trust litigation.”
The petition says Nick needs money to pay his legal fees and fund his commissary account.
“These distributions are non-discretionary,” the petition says. “The trust does not authorize the Trustee to condition these distribution points on any subjective assessment by the Trustee as to Nick’s intended use of those funds.”
Nick Reiner is currently awaiting trial in a correctional facility in Los Angeles
Nick is currently incarcerated at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. He is in the high-observation mental health unit.
“The inmates [where he is located] have significant mental health illnesses and need to be kept alone and away from any other people or inmates,” a Los Angeles County sheriff source told People.
Doctors and mental health professionals determined Nick has a “mental disability.” He is no longer on suicide watch, but staff at the jail keep him under close observation.
“He is still being monitored every 15 minutes and is being recorded when he exits his cell to go to court or for evaluations or other necessary requirements,” the source said, adding, “He is also evaluated each week by our medical professionals like psychiatrists on staff but he did not see one after court.”
Nick struggled with addiction for years before his arrest
In 2015, Nick worked with his father on the film Being Charlie, which Nick co-wrote about his struggles with addiction. He said he was living on the streets at various points during his life.
“I was homeless in Maine,” he told People, adding, “I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas.”
He said that he was sometimes on the street for weeks at a time. He said that this was because he refused to go to rehab.
“If I wanted to do it my way and not go to the programs they were suggesting, then I had to be homeless,” he said.
Nick described this as a “dark” period in his life.
