Nicole Kidman Seems to Comment on Keith Urban Divorce in New Interview: ‘I Will Get Through It’
Nicole Kidman is in a season of change.
On September 30, the 58-year-old Oscar winner filed for divorce from Keith Urban, 57, her husband of 19 years. The longtime couple – who share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14 – have not shared a reason for the split. But they reportedly grew apart over the years. While a source told People that Kidman wanted to attempt a reconciliation, Urban was unwilling to work on their relationship. He’s now reported to have moved on with musician Maggie Baugh, 25.
“Their split is turning dramatic. Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed,” the insider said. “She wanted to save their marriage and believed that she could, but it seems he’s already moved on.”
Nicole Kidman says sometimes life’s challenges ‘feel insurmountable’
The end of her second marriage is undoubtedly a blow to Kidman. (She was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001.) But in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said she knew she had the internal resources to weather a major personal storm.
“The best part [of growing older] is the experiences that you’ve accumulated,” she said. “So you go, ‘Oh, I’ve been here before. I actually know how to handle this now.’ Or, ‘Maybe I haven’t been in this place, but I’ve experienced something similar to this, and I do know that I will get through it.’”
However, knowing that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel doesn’t lessen the pain of the moment, she added.
“There’s something to knowing that no matter how painful, or how difficult, or how devastating something is, there is a way through,” the Big Little Lies star said. “You’re going to have to feel it. You’re not going to be able to numb it. You are going to have to feel it, and it’s going to feel insurmountable at times. You’re going to feel like you’re broken, but if you move gently and slowly—and it can take an enormous amount of time—it does pass.”
‘I’ve survived a lot,’ the ‘Big Little Lies’ star says
Despite the turmoil, Kidman said she feels fortunate to have accumulated a wealth of experience she can draw on during difficult times.
“As I get older, I want to be able to share and impart the things I’ve learned. I’ve seen a lot, I’ve experienced a lot, and I’ve survived a lot,” she said. “I want to pass on some of that knowledge and that wisdom and whatever I’ve learned. I’m not big on telling people what to do, but I’m more than happy to share.”
Her kids serve as a guiding light, the Australian star added. (In addition to her daughters with Urban, she shares Connor, 30, and Isabella, 32, with Cruise.)
“I’m grateful to be a part of this world,” Kidman said. “I’m grateful to be surviving as a woman, as an actress, and as a producer, professionally and personally. Also, my children [give me the] purpose of being their protector and their guide, promising them that I’m here and that, no matter what, there’s always a safe place to grow up in.”
