Kim Kardashian has a history of wearing iconic pieces of fashion history, but her latest appearance has drawn a wave of criticism. Years after donning Marilyn Monroe’s dress, she recently dazzled in Elizabeth Taylor’s $6.13 million necklace. But instead of celebrating the tribute, some social media users criticized the reality star for wearing another piece of jewelry associated with a legendary late actress.

The beauty mogul recently flew to Rome for the press tour of All’s Fair Season 2. She shared a clip of her detour in the Eternal City as she visited Bulgari’s flagship store. Accompanied by her mother, Kris Jenner, Kardashian got her birthday present arranged by stylist Law Roach. She wore Taylor’s historic emerald necklace on a white gown with a deep, plunging neckline.

As she filmed the whole experience, several X users called her out for being obsessed with such heritage pieces. A critic claimed, “Elizabeth Taylor just rolled over in her grave,” while another wrote, “She’s got a thing for dead women.” “I think this angers people because it feels like she’s colonizing Hollywood glamour through pastiche and the lowest form of predatory fame culture: influencer selfies,” a third critic suggested.

Many others compared Kardashian to Taylor, claiming the reality TV star lacks the legendary actress’s charisma. In a brutal jab, a user wrote, “How to make a $6.5 million necklace look like trash.” Some also asked the jewelry store not to let the Kardashians wear such pieces.

According to Radar Online, the 1962 necklace features 16 emeralds surrounded by diamonds. The necklace was a gift from Richard Burton and was sold at Christie’s 2011 auction for $613,500.

In her mini vlog, the 46-year-old said this was not the first time she had seen the necklace. The SKIMS founder shared, “I was lucky enough to have a phone conversation with her about this piece.” She continued, “When she passed away, I was brought into her home and shown her safe with all of her jewelry before they cleared it out.”

Kardashian recalled how she saw the late actress’ safe at her home. She also revealed how Taylor stored her precious things in a purple closet.

She later called Roach to thank him for the experience. “I don’t know how you did this, but this is like the best birthday present ever,” she told Roach. Kardashian also noted that she will start the new year with “Elizabeth energy.” She described the energy, saying, “Just going with, like, an unapologetic personality. With her giving back and her caring so much about people, that’s like the energy that I want to give out this year.”

Kardashian was brutally criticized a few years back when she donned Monroe’s Happy Birthday, Mr. President dress to Met Gala 2022. According to People, she went to great lengths to fit into the dress. It meant that she lost 16 pounds in just three weeks to wear the gown.

Many called out the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star for promoting unhealthy weight loss habits. However, she later clarified that she followed a healthy approach to lose the weight in less than a month.

The criticism did not stop there. The incident sparked a massive debate among fashion historians on whether such a piece of clothing should be re-worn by celebrities or not. Some also alleged that the dress was never meant to fit Kardashian. However, as she tried to slim down and fit into it, she damaged its back.

Eventually, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, which owns the dress, clarified that the dress was not damaged. They also noted that it already had pulled seams at its back.
