Kim Kardashian’s Health Scare Brings Back Painful Memories of Late Father as Kris Jenner Gets Emotional
Kim Kardashian revealed a health scare involving a diagnosis of esophagitis. The reality star was diagnosed with esophagitis, a condition involving inflammation of the esophagus, while her father, Robert Kardashian, died of esophageal cancer. However, the trailer does not reveal how severe Kardashian’s condition is, and further details are expected to emerge in the new season.
According to People, Kardashian shared in the latest trailer for The Kardashians that she has “something called esophagitis.” In a clip from the trailer, the SKIMS founder was lying on a hospital bed when someone asked her, “Didn’t your father… isn’t it what he died of?”
The mother of four did not share further details about her diagnosis in the trailer. However, Kris Jenner was visibly emotional in another interview from the show. She said, “I can’t, it makes me want to cry.”
Robert, who was known for fighting the infamous O.J. Simpson trial, died of esophageal cancer in 2003. According to the Mayo Clinic, esophagitis is a “swelling and irritation, called inflammation, of the tissues that line the esophagus.” It is a muscular tube that carries food to the stomach. Medical teams diagnose the condition with the help of a few tests, including endoscopy.
While Kardashian’s concern could be serious, esophagitis and esophageal cancer are two different conditions. The University of Washington’s Division of Gastroenterology says that esophagitis is a rather “very common” condition usually caused by acid reflux. One in 10 patients could develop the rather serious condition. It happens when the “normal lining of the esophagus is replaced by one prone to cancer.”
Kardashian was very close to her late father. She often shares pictures from her childhood and the time she spent with Robert on social media. On her father’s 22nd death anniversary last October, she shared a heartwarming Instagram story, thanking him for protecting her family from heaven.
In the emotional post, she further noted how her father passed away 22 years ago, at the time when she was 22. “I’ve known you just as long as you’ve been gone,” she added. Kardashian further wrote, “I hope you’re so proud of all of us. We love you, Dad, and miss you soooooooooo much.”
Kardashian previously shared how her father inspired her to pursue a career in law. According to Us Weekly, the 45-year-old shared in 2020 how she always had a passion for law all because of her father. She recalled sneaking into her father’s office and looking at Simpson’s case files at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
Kardashian shared that she used to look at evidence she was not supposed to see. She shared, “Maybe it was in my soul for years that that’s what I would have wanted to do.” The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star further revealed that she always told interviewers that she would like to be a “crime scene investigator or an attorney.”
However, Kardashian is not a lawyer yet. She opted for an apprenticeship route to become a lawyer in spite of going to a traditional law school. The businesswoman also passed the “baby bar” exam in 2021 but was unsuccessful in passing the official California bar exam.
