Kylie Jenner Under Fire for Promoting ‘Dangerous’ Habit in Racy New Campaign
Kylie Jenner is no stranger to public criticism. From her extensive Birkin collection to her over-the-top lifestyle and private jet trips, the beauty mogul is often slammed for flaunting her wealth. However, this time, she came under fire after promoting an unhealthy and dangerous habit: smoking.
The 29-year-old recently introduced a new collection for her fashion brand, Khy. As the reality TV star often turns model to promote various launches, she took up the role once again. What went wrong? The cigarette in her hand.
In the promotional photos and clips, she could be seen wearing nothing but a gigantic fur coat. According to She Finds, with all-glam makeup and a sleek bun, she used a cigarette as her prop. Sharing the monochrome photos, Jenner wrote, “There’s something about LA at night that I’ve always loved. The lights, the energy, the way the city feels after dark. wanted to bring a little of that feeling into our newest khy collection.”
The campaign’s theme did not sit well with viewers as they slammed Jenner for promoting a dangerous habit. An Instagram user noted, “Praying for anyone struggling with addiction that they’re able to heal from it.” Another fumed, “Why is she encouraging smoking?” “I’m really disappointed to see cigarettes being made to look ‘cool’ and ‘sexy’ again. With everything we know about lung cancer, I actually really thought we’d evolved beyond this. Very, very disappointing,” a third critic penned.
Many also noted that she was setting a bad example for the younger generation who follow her. This was not the first time the businesswoman, with hundreds of millions of followers, was spotted smoking on social media. She previously shared a carousel featuring her daily life, and one of the photos showed her smoking.
Back then, Jenner had a wine glass in her hand and a stack of papers sitting on her lap. She applied a face mask and smoked a cigarette. Her picture received a lot of backlash as she promoted the dangerous habit along with skincare. Many fans also noted that she disappointed them.
According to Tyla, in May, she admitted to smoking, but only occasionally. She confessed during her appearance on Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast. During the conversation, the host said, “Cigarettes are kind of back,” to which the Khy founder replied, “Oh, cigarettes are so back.”
She continued to reveal that she had been smoking for years. The mother of two said, “Thank God I’ve been like hiding for so many years.” “I’m really only a drunk […] There’s very few times where I’m like, ‘I need a cigarette’. I’m in Europe in the summer, always like midday,” Jenner further shared.
Shane found Jenner’s explanation relatable as he said, “I’ll wake up and smoke a cigarette in Europe.” The beauty mogul then beamed, “They’re perfect,” and the host expressed his wish to travel to Europe at the moment. However, Jenner had another solution to their temptation, saying that she would rather have a cigarette.
The two immediately made plans to smoke after recording the podcast. Sharing the reason behind their plan, Jenner said, “Because we had our wine.” They claimed that they deserved to smoke, as they had a bit of alcohol and beamed over the idea.
