Sara Gilson Joins an Alarming, Growing List of Murdered TikTokers
Sara Gilson spent the last days of her life using her social media platform to share stories from her life. The Tulsa-area hairstylist, known online as @mrsgilson, had built a devoted TikTok following where she sold clothing and jewelry while sharing glimpses of her everyday life. But hints that her life would turn tragically violent were not there, at least not right away. Gilson’s story joins an alarmingly growing number of TikTok stars who have met violent deaths.
Sara Gilson was allegedly killed in a murder-suicide
Sara Gilson’s life ended inside her own home, allegedly at the hands of her estranged husband. In early July 2026, she joined a viral trend in which creators joke about the “Netflix documentary” that will one day be made about their lives. In the caption, Gilson wrote: “Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon-to-be ex-husband who I just found out is a pedophile. I wish I was joking.” The upload is one of thousands on the platform.
Her admission was uploaded just 12 days before her death. On July 23, Owasso, Oklahoma, police responded to a 911 call from Gilson’s home. Upon arrival, they found her and her estranged husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, dead from gunshot wounds. Investigators are treating the deaths as a murder-suicide.
A family member, whose identity has not been revealed, discovered the bodies and called for help. While Gilson’s uploads were largely light, there was tension behind the scenes. Gilson had filed for protective orders against Duffey as far back as 2021. She requested another protective order just weeks before her death. That order was granted and remained active at the time of the assumed murder-suicide. A minor child not associated with the Gilson family was also granted a restraining order against Duffey, according to the Daily Beast.
Brianna Johnson was struck and killed in a drive-by in Miramar, Florida
Weeks before Sara Gilson’s death, a TikTok star whose reach was growing died in a drive-by shooting. Brianna Johnson, 21, known to her more than 300,000 followers as @_itgirlbri, was a lifestyle and beauty content creator. In the early hours of July 6, 2026, Johnson was riding in a Lamborghini Urus in Miramar, Florida, with two friends, when a white sedan pulled alongside the vehicle at an intersection and opened fire. The trio reportedly had left a party minutes before.
Police said more than a dozen shots were fired into the Urus before the shooter sped off. Johnson was killed, and the two men with her were critically injured. Security camera footage captured the moment the sedan pulled up alongside the sports car. Still, Miramar police have not publicly identified a motive or suspect.
Girlalala was killed by her boyfriend in Florida
Girlalala was also the victim of a domestic violence murder. The 21-year-old influencer had nearly 300,000 followers on TikTok when she was killed in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, in November 2025. Girlalala, legally Maurice Harrison, was fatally shot by her boyfriend, Shanoyd Whyte Jr. The shooting occurred inside a vehicle. Whyte Jr. told police that Girlalala pulled his hair during an arguement before he pulled a gun and fatally shot her.
Whyte Jr. called 911 himself. He told police that he had pulled the trigger, and was taken into custody the same day. He was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. According to NBC 6, He remains in custody. No trial date has been set.
