‘Open Secret’: Jared Leto’s Decades-Long History of Sexual Misconduct Allegations
In the new documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, four women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct. The women, who go by pseudonyms in the documentary, were between the ages of 16 and 19 when the alleged incidents happened. This is not the first time that Leto has faced allegations of sexual misconduct. For over two decades, rumors about Leto’s behavior have been public knowledge.
Four women recently made allegations of sexual misconduct against Jared Leto
The BBC documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret features four women’s accounts of interactions with Leto between 2002 and 2016. “Isabel,” “Alex,” “Clara” and “Etta,” as they go by in the film, allege that Leto assaulted them when they were teenagers.
Per Page Six, “Isabel” alleged that Leto sexually assaulted her in a motel bathroom in 2002. She was 17 at the time, and he was 31. “Clara” alleged that she had sex with Leto when she was 17. This occurred in California, where the legal age of consent is 18.
“Alex” alleged that Leto threatened to sexually assault her when she was 19 and found herself alone with him in a hotel room. “Etta” said that Leto began grooming her when she was 16, frequently making sexually explicit phone calls and suggesting that they should have sex.
This is not the first time Jared Leto has faced allegations of sexual assault
This is not the first time that Leto has faced similar allegations. In 2005, when Leto was 33 years old, The New York Post published an article alleging that Leto pursued teenage models staying at The Maritime Hotel.
“Girls from IMG, Elite, Next and Women are staying there, and Jared has been hitting on all of them,” an anonymous source said. “He’s a serial texter. He is constantly texting these other 16- and 17-year-old girls. It’s really kind of creepy.”
In 2015, director James Gunn made a since-deleted Periscope video alleging that Leto slept with underage girls. While he apologized for his delivery, he later made similar claims. In 2018, Dylan Sprouse posted about Leto on Twitter.
“Yo @JaredLeto now that you’ve slid into the DMs of every female model aged 18–25, what would you say your success rate is?” he asked.
Gunn responded: “He starts at 18 on the Internet?”
In 2025, nine women accused Leto of sexual misconduct. The DJ Allie Tielz alleged that Leto assaulted her when she was a teenager.
“I was assaulted and traumatized by this creep when I was 17,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. “He knew my age and didn’t care. What he did was predatory, terrifying, and unacceptable.”
After this, multiple other women came forward with allegations in a report by Air Mail. One woman claimed that when she was 16, Leto asked for her number and began calling her late at night.
“Always at one, two, three A.M.,” she said. “And the conversations turned sexual. He’d ask things like, ‘Have you ever had a boyfriend? Have you ever sucked a dick?’”
The model Laura La Rue alleged that Leto exposed himself to her when she was 17. Other women claimed that he began masturbating in front of them.
“It’s been an open secret for a long time,” one woman said.
He denied any wrongdoing
Leto and his representatives have repeatedly denied these allegations. In a statement about the new claims, Leto said that he has never assaulted anyone.
“I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”
