Netflix has made a surprising decision regarding the future of Beauty In Black. 

Last last year, the streamer said that the Tyler Perry drama would end after its upcoming third season. Now, Netflix has shocked fans by reversing its cancellation decision, confirming that the soapy series about a stripper who gets involved with the powerful and ruthless family behind a cosmetics empire will get a season 4.

“Beauty in Black is back for season 4, and the Bellarie family’s story is far from finished,” Perry – who is the show’s creator, writer, director, and executive producer – told Tudum. “There was so much more I wanted to explore, and I’m grateful I get to keep telling this story. To the audience that has been on this ride with us from day one, thank you for watching and sharing it with the world. More episodes are on the way!”

Beauty In Black Season 3 is confirmed to hit Netflix on August 27. In the new season, Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams) has grabbed a seat at the Bellarie table. But holding onto her power may be as difficult as winning it in the first place. 

“When a deadly family feud erupts, she’s forced into an uneasy alliance with Mallory (Crystle Stewart). Together, they navigate a ruthless world of blackmail, revenge, and buried secrets as the family wages war against one of its own, threatening to bring the entire Bellarie empire crashing down,” according to Netflix’s synopsis. 

Why did Netflix change course and renew ‘Beauty in Black’ for season 4? 

Netflix has not commented on its decision to un-cancel Beauty In Black. But a few factors likely played a role in the shock move. 

One likely had to do with strong viewership numbers for Beauty In Black Season 2, which dropped in March. The show’s sophomore season racked up 19.5 million views in the first half of 2026, according to Netflix’s “What We Watched” report for the first half of 2026. While it wasn’t at the top of the streamer’s most-watched shows for the year so far, it outperformed some other high-profile recent releases, including season 2 of the Tina Fey comedy The Four Seasons, Season 10 of Love Is Blind, season 2 of the Emmy-nominated Beef, and season 5 of Sweet Magnolias. 

Another factor working in the show’s favor could be Perry’s relentlessly efficient production schedule. Season 2 filmed in just six days, according to TVLine. That fast pace likely keeps costs under control, which could make the show more attractive to Netflix. Perry produces his shows at his own massive studio complex in Atlanta, which also helps him manage expenses.

Back in March, series star Williams also told TVLine that she and the rest of the cast couldn’t understand Netflix’s decision to end the show after just three seasons. She speculated that it might have something to do with “the algorithm.”

“I can honestly say that when I initially found out [about the cancellation], I was like, ‘Wait, what?'” she said. “We’ve got the numbers that you want, and people like it. They’re loving the show!”

“I didn’t really understand it, and I still don’t know the exact reason,” Williams added. “As a cast, we were trying to figure out why they would they do this … We would have loved to keep it going for as long as we could.”
