Ozzy Osbourne Hologram Ignites Fan Debate Ahead of Ozzfest Revival
Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy is one of seismic influence. The gritty singer from Birmingham became the defining voice of heavy metal as the frontman of Black Sabbath. And he helped pioneer a sound that would shape an entire genre with raw vocals and ominous themes. Fans aren’t ready to let go of Ozzy just yet, as they’re hoping for an Ozzfest revival in the future. New reports suggest a hologram of the rocker could be in the works, which is sure to divide fans. Here’s what to know.
Ozzy Osbourne is rumored to return in hologram form for Ozzfest in 2027
Fans of Ozzy Osbourne aren’t ready to let him go just yet — and they could see him back on stage in a different form. According to Radar Online, Ozzfest is slated to return in 2027. And the revival of the fest could allegedly feature Ozzy as a hologram.
The publication notes that Sharon Osbourne confirmed that she’s discussing bringing back Ozzfest, the legendary touring metal festival founded by the couple in 1996. Ozzfest became a defining platform for heavy metal and hard rock bands worldwide. Originally conceived as a way to showcase both established acts and up-and-coming talent, the festival quickly gained a reputation for its high-energy performances and massive crowds. Over the years, Ozzfest helped launch the careers of bands like Slipknot, System of a Down, and Disturbed.
Ozzfest ran its last full tour in 2018. According to Sharon, she’s in talks with Live Nation for a resurrection.
“It was something Ozzy was very passionate about — giving young talent a stage in front of a lot of people,” she said. “We really started metal festivals in this country. It was (replicated but) never done with the spirit of what ours was, because ours was a place for new talent. It was like summer camp for kids.”
An insider told Radar Online that a new Ozzfest would serve as “a celebration of Ozzy’s legacy — from the early Sabbath years right through to his final solo shows. The family wants it to feel like a living memorial, full of the artists he inspired.”
Another source addressed the possibility of a hologram. “There has been talk of getting a hologram of Ozzy involved, as those who knew him think it would be a lovely touch,” they alleged.
Ozzy Osbourne previously discussed the possibility of becoming a hologram
The Black Sabbath frontman once mentioned the possibility of himself becoming a hologram after his death. In 2018, he addressed the controversial move while announcing tour dates in the U.S.
“If I’m gone, I don’t have a say in the matter,” he said, according to Tone Deaf. “I can’t complain, I’m the prince of darkness, I will haunt you. Go f***ing wild!”
He also previously commented on Justin Timberlake’s alleged planned use of Prince’s hologram.
“From what I know of Prince, he wouldn’t have liked that,” Ozzy noted. “I read an article about him, and he would never do taped interviews because his voice was his income.”
How do fans feel about a projection of the Prince of Darkness?
Do fans want to see Ozzy Osbourne as a hologram? Generally, Black Sabbath fans don’t seem interested in the possibility.
“No,” one fan commented on Reddit about whether they would want to see a hologram of Ozzy perform. “I would find the whole experience to be hollow. I might as well save time and money by sitting at home and watching his old gigs. However, if there was an exhibition dedicated to Ozzy’s life, and the hologram was just a piece of it, I think that would be acceptable.”
“Never,” another Reddit user wrote. “It would just be sad. We had our time with Ozzy.”
However, some fans are on board.
“I would be first in line,” a fan wrote. “Ozzy was fine with the idea. He didn’t care how his image was used after he died, and to be surrounded by people that love his music, all singing together and remembering him? Absolutely, I’d be there.”
