Married at First Sight won’t be the same.

Last week, fans of the long-running reality series were stunned to learn that none of the show’s three experts – Pastor Cal Roberson, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, and Dr. Pia Holec – would not return for the upcoming 19th season.

Now, Roberson is speaking out about what’s next for him after leaving MAFS after 16 seasons

“By now, most of you will have heard that I’m no longer with Married at First Sight,” Roberson said in a video shared on Instagram on January 14.

“Here’s the truth,” he continued, after thanking fans for their support. “My platform has changed, but my assignment has not. You see, I didn’t start caring about relationships because of TV. TV was just an amplification of the work I’ve done my entire life.”

“This is not a disappearance,” Roberson added. “It’s a pivot.”

The relationship expert hinted that he would continue to be involved in TV as he moved “behind the camera to tell bigger stories as an executive producer.” He also announced a podcast and urged people to explore his Marriage Ain’t For Punks app and website.

Marriage Ain’t For Punks is a “resource for marriage and pre-marriage,” according the program’s Instagram.

‘Married at First Sight’ expert says show is taking ‘a different turn’

In a 2024 interview with Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Roberson said he and his wife, Wendy Roberson, hoped Marriage Ain’t For Punks would help address how more and more people are “looking at relationships as disposable” due to dating apps and other factors.

“It has created sort of this mindset of disposing of each other very quickly at the first sign of difficulty,” he said. “And it goes beyond the show. I mean, my wife and I, we’ve even been thinking, ‘How do we help to change the mindset of people who dispose so quickly?’”

Roberson also addressed his Married at First Sight exit during a recent appearance on Love Is Blind alum Amber Desiree “AD” Smith’s What’s the Reality? podcast.

“We’re passing the torch to new experts on Peacock … I’m on to some bigger and better things,” he said. “I wish the new experts the best and I think the show is going to be taking on a different turn and I think this is just a part of the evolution of the show.”
