Jalen Hurts was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. When he first signed with the team, Hurts inked a 4-year, $6 million contract that included a $1.9 million signing bonus and $2.8 million in guaranteed money. Then in 2023, the athlete signed a massive 5-year, $255 million deal including $23 million signing bonus and more than $179 million guaranteed. That gives the signal caller an average annual salary of $51 million, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league.

But just because Hurts can live an extremely lavish lifestyle most people can only dream about, doesn’t mean he chooses to. In fact, the quarterback has been open for years about how he prefers to live below his means.

Here’s more on that and some of Hurts’ simple tips for saving money.

Hurts’ top tips to save money

After signing his mega deal with the Eagles, Hurts didn’t run out and buy a huge mansion. He decided that instead of something large and extravagant, all he needed was a $2,000 a month apartment. His modest residence is located in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, which is just a short drive from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia where the Birds play on Sundays.

Hurts did hire a financial advisor as he felt that was “essential” after he signed his contract. He also previously spoke to GQ and offered a few smart and easy tips for anyone who wants to save some cash.

“There are tons of ways you can save money,” he told the outlet. His first tip is “instead of buying a brand new car, cause it depreciates as soon as you get off the lot, you can buy a used car or lease a car.”

The second tip he mentioned is “instead of going out to eat at these five-star restaurants, you can simply cook at home, or a person like me, Imma take me a few to-go plates from the facility.”

Hurts also talked about cell phone plans, explaining that there’s no need to think you have to go with one of the larger carriers since most of the smaller ones come with the same benefits and much more affordable plans.

Finally, he recommended, “Instead of hiring a landscaping company, you can hire a local kid from the community to cut your grass.”

So now that we have some of Hurts’ money-saving tips, people are curious about what he does spend his cash on.

Well, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback is a fan of fashion, so he has splurged a bit on that in the past.

Hurts revealed that when he got his first big paycheck, he bought a cheesesteak and then hit up a mall. Hurts said he got some “Philadelphia gear” which included several bomber jackets. The Philly gear he bought added up to $1000. In addition, he purchased some real jewelry and says all in all, he dropped about $30,000 during his “first year in fashion.”
