President Donald Trump Thinks Diet Coke Prevents Cancer, Reveals Dr. Oz
Dr. Oz has worked closely with President Donald Trump for several years. The famed doctor has gained some fans because of it and garnered a fair bit of criticism. No matter how you feel about him, one thing is certain: he has more access to the President of the United States than most people right now. Apparently, that access has led him to grow familiar with his quirks. Dr. Oz recently caused a ton of debate when he revealed that the sitting president once told him he thinks diet soda kills cancer cells. This is what happened.
Dr. Oz stirred controversy when he revealed that President Donald Trump thinks diet soda kills cancer cells
In April, Dr. Oz sat down for a chat with Donald Trump Jr. on his podcast, Triggered, and made several pretty bold claims. One story, however, drew a lot of attention. During the course of their conversation, Dr. Oz revealed that President Donald Trump once told him that he thinks diet soda could possibly kill cancer cells, because soda will kill grass if spilled on it. Dr. Oz shared the story with a chuckle, clearly finding it amusing. Those listening found it baffling.
When Dr. Oz’s revelation raised more than a few eyebrows, he attempted to walk back the statement, insisting that it was all good-natured ribbing. Oz told Fox News that he believes the president was “only joking” when he claimed soda killed cancer cells. He insisted no one would actually make such a claim simply by observing what the carbonated beverage does to grass. Critics of the controversial president feel fairly certain that the conversation was a bit more serious than Dr. Oz is now claiming.
For those not in the know, soda does, in fact, kill grass, but it occurs due to osmotic dehydration. In short, the soda draws moisture out of the grass and causes it to burn, wilt, and eventually die. There is no evidence to suggest anything similar could occur with cancer cells. Over the years, there has been plenty of chatter that artificial sweeteners found in diet beverages could be potentially carcinogenic, though.
How much diet soda does he drink?
Whether President Donald Trump thinks diet soda kills cancer cells or not, he is absolutely a huge fan of the beverage. In 2017, the New York Times reported that the current president had a case-per-day soda drinking habit. Reporters found that Trump summoned Diet Cokes whenever he felt like it and at every meal, adding up to about 12 12-ounce cans per day.
According to official guidelines, Trump’s soda consumption exceeds the daily recommended limit of caffeine for adults, though he isn’t adding additional caffeine to the mix with other drinks. He famously does not enjoy coffee or tea. In fact, he stirred controversy by turning down a traditional Arabic coffee during a visit to Saudi Arabia.
