The Chosen is a historical drama exploring the life of Jesus (played by Jonathan Roumie). Its sixth season focuses on the final day of Jesus’ life as “in the face of loneliness and death, [he] stands resolute in his plan that has always led to one place: the cross,” Amazon shared in its synopsis of the coming episodes.

“Everyone knows the basics of this part of the story, but not everyone knows the ‘why’ of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours,” said Dallas Jenkins, chairman and chief creative officer of 5&2 Studios and creator/executive producer of The Chosen. “We realized this not only deserved a season of television but a standalone full-length theatrical event as well. We wrote and filmed all of it with this in mind.”

On Instagram, Roumie reflected on Good Friday and his experience playing Jesus.

“On this day 2,000 years ago, the weight of every sin, every sorrow, every broken heart was carried up a hill… and nailed to a cross,” he wrote. “Stepping into this moment was one of the most physically and spiritually demanding experiences of my life… and yet barely scratches the surface … the story continues November 15.”

The Chosen Seasons 1-5 are streaming on Prime Video.
