Prince Harry knows how to make headlines for his ties to the royal family and his marriage to Meghan Markle. And in December 2025, he went viral again — but this time, it was for a skit on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Stephen Colbert began his segment by noting how many holiday-themed films featured Americans falling in love with princes. The host noted some of the movie titles: A Royal Icing Christmas, The Reluctant Royal, and A Royal Christmas Tail, just to name a few.

“As much as I love these holiday movies, and I do, I think they’re a little problematic because they give people the unrealistic expectation that during the holiday season, they’re just going to run into some prince at their job or walking down the street,” Colbert explained before Prince Harry walked on stage to interrupt him. The crowd then erupted with cheers as Colbert asked Harry what he was doing on The Late Show.

“I genuinely thought this was the audition for The Gingerbread Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska,” Harry announced, making the audience laugh.

Colbert asked Harry why he’d ever want to be in a Christmas film, given that he’s an actual prince.

“You Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies, and you’re clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not?” Harry responded.

The royal made a political jab at American politics

Stephen Colbert pushed back on Prince Harry’s claim that Americans are obsessed with royals.

“Hold on! Hold on,” Colbert said. “Look, I wouldn’t say we’re obsessed with royalty.”

“Really?” Prince Harry fought back. “I heard you ‘elected’ a king,” he continued, taking a jab at President Donald Trump and the national No Kings protests. “And often making such a big deal about my great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, George III.”

Colbert admitted that Harry had a point with the king comment, but he went on to call George III “kind of a jerk.”

Prince Harry tried bargaining with Stephen Colbert to become an American Hallmark prince

As the skit continued, Prince Harry asked Stephen Colbert what he’d have to do to get into one of the iconic Hallmark holiday films.

“I can ride a horse,” Harry offered. “I can fly a helicopter — I can ride a horse in a helicopter.”

Colbert was impressed with Harry’s skills, but noted that it’s all about his connections in show business. He then asked the royal if he knew any famous TV stars who could help him, which caused a reaction from the audience, given Harry’s notable wife, Meghan Markle.

“I might know one,” Harry responded. And he then began bargaining with Colbert about all the things he’d do to get in a movie, including “settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House,” which is what “people in TV do.”

“Hey, Harry, I didn’t do any of those things,” Colbert said.

“Maybe that’s why you’re canceled,” Harry quipped, resulting in even more laughter.

Prince Harry elicited more laughter by noticing the Christmas magic around them on the set

Stephen Colbert continued to tell Harry that he couldn’t help the royal with his Hallmark quest. But Prince Harry noticed a jingling sound in the background.

“Can you hear the sleigh bells?” Harry cut Colbert off.

“Yeah, it’s probably one of those Central Park horses having a seizure,” Colbert said.

“No, come on, just look at this — we’re suddenly surrounded by beautiful Christmas trees!” Harry exclaims, pointing to the snow-covered trees on the set of The Late Show.

Colbert told Harry that the trees were for a skit, and Harry stopped him once more. The prince noticed snow falling all around them, creating a sense of wonder and beauty.

“This isn’t snow!” Colbert said. “They’re just already starting to tear down the Ed Sullivan Theater. This is asbestos.”

“Stephen, you just have to believe!” Harry exclaimed. “Doesn’t this prove anything can happen?” Harry then reminded Colbert that there’s now a “handsome prince” standing before him.

The host and the royal then took a step toward each other and put their hands on each other’s shoulders, exchanging longing looks. It’s in this moment that fans thought they might lean in to kiss.

“Harry, I know you want this — but I’m afraid I have to say … I was testing you. You’ve got the role!” Colbert exclaimed, pulling away from Harry to address the audience. “Ladies and gentlemen, Harry! The official Late Show Prince of Christmas!”
