Could Prince Harry’s imminent return to the U.K. be the first step to a reconciliation with his estranged brother, Prince William?

The royal siblings have been at odds for years, and the rift only deepened with the publication of Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare. Now, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are moving back to Britain, six years after they quit the royal family for good. But don’t expect William and Harry to kiss and make up just yet.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Surprise U.K. Return Has Some People Fearing the Worst for King Charles

William is likely skeptical of his younger’s brother’s surprise return, King Charles’ former butler Grant Harrold told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, speaking on behalf of CasinoHawks.

“I think the King will be happy to have Harry and Meghan back nearby, but he will be worried about what they will do. He will also be worried about William’s reaction,” Harrold said. “There would have been countless conversations between the two of them in recent days. The king will be trying to be positive and see the good side of it, but William will have a more cynical view. The king always wants to see the good in people, he always wants to resolve issues — but William isn’t as trusting.”

Other insiders have said that a “fuming” William was “blindsided” by his brother’s decision, and that he believes he and Meghan are scheming their way back into official royal positions.

“William suspects Harry and Meghan actually do think they’re going to be accepted back onto the Royal roster,” a source told Woman’s Day. “It may not happen overnight, but William’s convinced this is their long game – and he’s stunned that Harry thinks there would be even remotely a chance.”

Kate Middleton wants to stop feeding stories of a ‘permanently divided’ royal family

If there’s one person who could change William’s opinion regarding his brother, it might be his wife, Kate Middleton. Amid rumors that Harry and Meghan might try to set up an unofficial “royal court” the future queen is urging William to mend fences for the sake of the monarchy.

“Kate is the voice of reason,” a source told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack. “She knows William and Harry may never be brothers in the way they once were. But they can be civil, they can cooperate, and they can stop feeding the story that the royal family is permanently divided.”

With Harry and Meghan back on U.K. soil, speculation about a rivalry between the two families will only increase. The Duchess of Cambridge wants to put a stop to that.

“This isn’t about forgiveness. It’s about strategy,” the source explained. “Kate is thinking about the institution and the future, when William is King and she is Queen.”
