Princess Eugenie’s Husband Was Shocked by Father-in-Law Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s Demand on Their Wedding Day
Princess Eugenie married her longtime partner, Jack Brooksbank, at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on Oct. 12, 2018. The wedding was a star-studded affair with several celebrities in attendance, including Naomi Campbell, Demi Moore, Ellie Goulding, Cara Delevingne, Kate Moss, Liv Tyler, James Blunt, and Robbie Williams.
However, the ceremony was low-key compared to the grand wedding Eugenie’s cousin, Prince Harry, had at that same chapel a few months earlier when he married Meghan Markle there. The Sussexes’ wedding was televised on just about every channel, and thousands lined the streets of Windsor to get a glimpse of the duke and duchess. That was not the case on Eugenie’s big day.
Therefore, Jack was taken aback when his father-in-law made a demand no one was expecting.
What demand Andrew had that ‘alarmed’ his son-in-law
A royal biographer has claimed that Jack was “alarmed” by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s insistence on something he wanted the newlyweds to do following their wedding ceremony.
According to Hugo Vickers, who authored the book Queen Elizabeth II A Personal History, Andrew “persuaded” a company to film the wedding after it became apparent that none of the major networks would carry it. But Jack was even more “alarmed” that Andrew “insisted” on a procession through Windsor.
Vickers wrote per The Mirror, “Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank in St George’s Chapel. This was a happier wedding. It did not attract as much publicity, and the [former] Duke of York was annoyed that it would not be filmed for the major networks, though he persuaded a company to record it.
“The groom was alarmed that [the former] Prince Andrew insisted on a procession through Windsor, afraid that no one would be there to cheer them. But Windsor loves a procession, and there was a good crowd.”
Jack did not extend an offer to his mother-in-law that many thought he would
Jack also made headlines recently for something regarding his mother-in-law, Sarah Ferguson.
After Sarah was evicted from Royal Lodge and had no other place lined up to stay, some thought she would receive an offer from Eugenie and Jack to reside at their second home in Portugal, but that didn’t happen.
According to The Daily Mail, Eugenie’s husband did not even give Sarah the option to stay with him and the princess at their home in Portugal. One source explained that “Jack has worked very hard building his business, and it’s going well, so the last thing he needs is for the Epstein scandal to taint that.”
Despite being “concerned about her welfare,” Jack “resisted any suggestion” that Sarah seek refuge at their home. The insider added, “His first loyalty has to be to his wife and their two young children. The whole sordid affair has already brought them a great deal of unwarranted attention, and he won’t do anything to increase that.”
On April 16, Sarah was spotted staying at a luxury chalet hideout in the Austrian Alps.
