Psychic Patti Negri From ‘Ghost Adventures’ Reveals the Creepiest Place She’s Ever Visited
Psychic medium Patti Negri is no stranger to spooky places. As a regular on Ghost Adventures, she’s accompanied Zak Bagans and his team to plenty of unsettling spots, where she attempts to communicate with spirits and clear spaces of bad energy. But one place left her truly shaken, she says.
“The darkest and spookiest place I’ve ever been is right in LA. It’s the Cecil Hotel,” she told Showbiz Cheat Sheet in a recent interview.
Patti Negri recalls unsettling visit to The Cecil Hotel
The historic, 700-room Cecil Hotel was built in 1924 on the edge of the city’s downtown. While it started its life as a grand establishment, it quickly slid into seediness thanks to its proximity to Skid Row. Over the past 100 years, it’s been the site of multiple suicides and murders, hosted serial killer Richard Ramirez, and – perhaps most infamously – was the place where 21-year-old Elisa Lam died by drowning in the one of the rooftop water tanks in 2013. (The latter case was explored in Netflix’s 2021 documentary, Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel.)
Negri visited the seemingly cursed location for a taping of Ghost Adventures. She got the call on short notice and didn’t even know exactly where she was going. But as soon as she arrived to film for the Travel Channel/Discovery series, she got bad vibes.
“Just being near the building make you so depressed, so hopeless,” she said.
“I got there and [Zak] is like, “OK Patti, there’s 700 rooms. There’s 14 floors. They’re all unlocked and you tell us where to go.’ And I’m just like, ‘I just want to kill myself. I don’t know. This is horrible.’ So I went to the elevator … I pushed a button, went to a room, went right into a room.”
That’s when things got really weird.
“I’m just sitting there going, ‘I got to get out of here,’” she shared. “And I walk up to a window and I’m opening a window and Zak’s yelling at me. And I’m in a trance state … he finally got me to sit down because the window [was on a] high floor and didn’t even have a screen on it. Of all the 700 rooms, I led him to a room [where] somebody had jumped out that very window.”
But it’s wasn’t just one room at the Cecil that had bad energy.
“Then I led him to a room where I feel myself being attacked, and it was a woman who had been raped and murdered in that same room who lived there,” she recalled. “It was thing after thing, just the darkest stuff. Every room has its own sad and horrible story.”
‘Ghost Adventures’ psychic has advice if you’re dealing with your own haunted house
Of course, the Cecil Hotel isn’t the only spooky place that Negri has experienced. She recalled performing a seance in an “insanely haunted” Hollywood Hills house that once hosted Charlie Chaplin, The Rolling Stones, and Marilyn Manson. The home’s ghost became increasingly agitated during the seance, and eventually the cameraman “burst into flames, up his back, like angel wings of fire, up his back, spontaneous combustion,” she said.
That experience was extreme, but not all spirits are harmful, Negri said. And if you happen to be sharing your home with one, there are a few ways to manage the issue.
“I firmly believe this is our realm of existence, and they really do have to play by our rules. If it feels positive, get to know it,” she said. “But it it’s a negative, you make it leave. You have that prerogative. And if it’s positive, you still would need boundaries and guidelines because they can drain your energy.”
Whether you suspect your home is haunted or not, it’s always a good idea to cleanse your home before you move in, Negri added.
“Everybody needs to clear your house, whether from anger, just sadness, everything else,” she said. “There’s a thousand ways to do it.” For example, you might bang drums and hit pots and pans, or burn palo santo and incense, moving counterclockwise. The goal? To rid the home “of any old energy, any stuck energy, any illness, any spirits, any residual energy left over,” Negri shared. “Push it outdoors and windows and it’ll feel so much bigger. And then fill it up clockwise with what you want. Love, health, happiness, abundance.”
If your home does have a spirit, it’s not necessarily cause for alarm, she stressed.
“Spirits are everywhere. They come and go. Some houses, they want to stay in. They’re attached to the land or the house or an object in it or the people, or some are just passing through all the time,” she said. “But there’s a lot of spirits out there and [it’s] not bad, not good. It’s your house, your rules.”
