Congrats are in order for Alexa Chung and Tom Sturridge! The model and TV personality has confirmed the speculation that she is engaged to The Sandman actor.

In an interview with More or Less, Chung said that Sturridge proposed with a Tudor-style ring because “Tom knows how much I adore vintage and antiques, and he got me a beautiful Tudor ring. It’s like a table-cut diamond. When I went to the National Portrait Gallery and looked at images of Anne Boleyn and all the other people who perished at the hands of Henry VIII, a lot of them had these rings on.”

Chung added that her hairstylist was worried that the ring may be haunted, and joked, “I hope that my ring isn’t haunted. Or do I? Because that’s iconic.”

Now some are wondering about antique jewelry and whether those pieces can carry more than just memories from previous owners.

Inbaal Honigman is a celebrity psychic astrologer who has been reading Tarot since the ’90s. She has appeared in the media for more than 20 years, giving her predictions for Big Brother’s Little Brother, Elle Magazine, and talkSPORT radio, to name a few. She’s offering her take on antique jewelry and what to do if your accessories start to spook you.

Speaking on behalf of  Angelic Diamonds, Honigman told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Jewelry worn for a long time may absorb some of its owner’s energy, which could remain when someone else receives the piece. People and objects share energy all the time; people and people share energy all the time, so when we own a piece of jewelry for a while, it takes on some of our energy, it vibrates at a different frequency, a little similar to our own.”

Honigman also believes certain materials may be more likely to retain this energy, explaining that “gold and silver rings hold on to a lot of energy from their previous wearers. Other metals are the same.”

She added that “rings carry an enormous amount of energy from the people who have worn them and everything they experience, especially in the case of engagement rings that carry the promise of one partner to take care of the other. If the ring carries the energy of separation, tragedy, anxiety, or tears, then this can seep into the new wearer’s marriage later on. If you happen to receive and wear a special ring that someone used to wear during their divorce or bereavement, for example, then the energy of that misfortune may influence you, too.”

However, this doesn’t mean anyone who wears a vintage or inherited engagement ring should be worried. But for those who believe in spiritual energy, Honigman shared three ways to symbolically cleanse your jewelry of unwanted energy from previous owners.

She said you can wash away unwanted energy with running water because “water has long been associated with cleansing and renewal. It can help wash away any lingering energy from previous owners. Running water is always a good option, as water is cooling and cleansing, and open water, such as a stream or even the ocean, allows the energies to disperse quickly.”

Honigman also advises, “Use sunlight to cleanse your ring and moonlight to recharge it. The sunlight can help clear unwanted energy from jewelry, while moonlight is believed to restore positive energy. Leave the ring on a window ledge (about 10 minutes) so that the sun fades out the unwanted energies. Then, the moon recharges the ring with its own blessed vibrations.”

Finally, the psychic astrologer revealed that you can “clear negative energy with smoke. Burning incense has long been associated with spiritual cleansing. The smoke can help remove unwanted energy from jewelry. Holding the jewel in some incense smoke for a moment can also work to remove anything unfortunate from the piece.”
