Where Queen Camilla and Prince Harry’s Relationship Stands After the Duke’s ‘Vile Attacks’ Against His Stepmother
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised people around the globe with the announcement that they are moving back to the U.K. six and a half years after stepping down as working royals. Almost instantly, the minds of many went to Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) and what they think of the news after they had to deal with the Sussexes’ attacks from across the pond for years.
But what about Harry’s stepmother, Queen Camilla, who the duke attacked in his memoir Spare and labeled a “villain” during a televised interview? It’s been reported that King Charles and his youngest son have been trying to repair their relationship, but what’s the state of Harry’s relationship with the woman he called “dangerous” and “evil?”
The Duke of Sussex also stressed in his book that he and William did not want their father to marry Camilla but realized it was going to happen and ultimately, “We pumped his hand, wished him well. No hard feelings. We recognized that he was finally going to be with the woman he loved, the woman he’d always loved.”
According to royal author Robert Jobson, “There is a debt outstanding first” after Harry “slammed” Camilla in his 2023 memoir.
Jobson told the Daily Mail, “He wrote that she had ‘sacrificed’ him ‘on her personal PR altar.’ Camilla kept quiet. The debt to his brother has not been paid either.”
The author added that the chances of Harry apologizing to his family members “are slim. But if the monarchy is going to unite, it is essential.”
Someone who used to work for the royals has a hunch about how the queen reacted to the news that her stepson and Meghan are returning to the U.K. and how she will handle things going forward.
Grant Harrold was King Charles’ butler for seven years at Highgrove House. During his time working for the monarch and Camilla, Harrold’s duties also included valet, housekeeper, house manager, and driver. He also looked after Prince William, Catherine, and Prince Harry as well whenever they stayed at the estate.
Since leaving the royal household, Harrold has become one of the U.K.’s leading etiquette experts. In 2025, he published his first book, The Royal Butler, which became an Amazon bestseller. He regularly appears on TV offering royal commentary on both current and historic news stories.
Speaking on behalf of CasinoHawks, Harrold told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Queen Camilla has made the effort with Harry in recent years, despite everything that he’s said about her. She will just want what makes the king happy. She’s got tough skin, and she’s able to see the bigger picture. She’s very good at negotiating and being a peacemaker.”
