Queen Elizabeth Was so Fearful of Prince Harry and Meghan When They Were Together That She Always Had to Have Someone Else Around Her
Members of Britain’s royal family were stunned when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they were stepping down as working royals in 2020.
The news was so surprising that Queen Elizabeth II called a summit at Sandringham to discuss the details. The only people at that closed-door summit were the now-late queen, then-Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry. There have been conflicting reports about whether Meghan Markle was invited to join via video, but she did not attend.
The duke and duchess wanted a half-in, half-out royal deal but the queen shot that down. The Sussexes then ended up moving to America full-time. But after settling in, they started tossing verbal grenades at the royal family and publicly airing out their dirty laundry.
Now we’re hearing that after that, Queen Elizabeth was afraid to be alone with them. Here’s more on that and why King Charles has taken that same approach with his son and daughter-in-law.
Why Queen Elizabeth was reportedly fearful of being alone with the Sussexes
During an episode of Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered, longtime royal biographer Hugo Vickers shared why the late monarch always made it a point to have someone else around rather than be alone with Harry and Meghan after they moved Stateside.
Vickers said: “I do happen to know that the queen always used to make sure that she had somebody with her whenever she saw those two, for the reason that they might be taking photographs or recording or anything they might be doing. And she was very upset by the whole thing.”
Vickers added, “That’s what I really find unforgivable. I’m a great admirer of the queen and I think she had a fantastic reign … she should have been just floating into sort of sunlight uplands in sort of the glory of the Platinum Jubilee and instead she had all these awful problems and this was one of the biggest ones that she had to deal with. Absolutely dreadful.”
King Charles does not speak to Prince Harry now because the duke can’t be trusted
Schofield explained that King Charles has adopted the same strategy his mother did after Harry and Meghan continued to talk about the royals in interviews, a Netflix documentary, and the prince’s book Spare.
“Queen Camilla has to be in the room with King Charles, in the rare moment that he does actually see Prince Harry,” Schofield said. “It’s all about trust … There is no trust when it comes to Prince Harry.”
The last time Prince Harry is believed to have seen his father was in February 2024 when he flew from his home in Montecito to Clarence House in London. The meeting only lasted a few minutes and was in the presence of Queen Camilla.
In a bombshell interview with the BBC on May 2, Harry decided to divulge things about his family again while complaining that the king should have helped him get his security reinstated. The duke revealed that at this point, King Charles is no longer speaking to him at all.
The BBC has since apologized for failing to “properly challenge” the claims made by Harry and admitted that it should have included responses from both the Home Office and Buckingham Palace in that interview.
