Megan Thee Stallion is taking Broadway by storm. 

The rapper just made history at the first female-identifying performer to play Zidler in the Tony Award-winning Moulin Rouge! The Musical. (Jim Broadbent played the role in the 2001 movie with Nicole Kidman. On stage, the character has been played by Tituss Burgess, Boy George, Wayne Brady, and Bob the Drag Queen.)

Megan’s eight-week Broadway engagement, which began on March 24, 2026, has generated significant buzz, with ticket sales surging more than three times overnight after her casting announcement, according to Billboard. Many attendees are first-time theater-goers.

“So grateful for this incredible cast & crew & everyone who worked so hard to make opening night a success!! HOTTIES IM ON BROADWAY!! Come see me now through May 17,” Megan wrote on Instagram after she made her debut in the iconic musical. 

The “WAP” performer had plenty of people in the audience cheering her on at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. The audience for the jukebox musical included Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish, and Todrick Hall. According to People, they – along with the rest of the audience – were “applauding and dancing in their seats.”

Fans praise rapper’s Broadway performance 

Those who’ve had a chance to see the musical praised Megan’s performance. 

“Thank you so much for an awesome show,” one person wrote on Instagram. “I’ve seen this show a couple of times but this new run with you Megan is by far my favorite. And the swag you put on Zidler.”

“First time seeing Moulin Rouge and it was unforgettable!” another commented.

“You were remarkable last night! You should be very proud! Welcome to the fam,” wrote Shaun-Avery Williams, who is part of the Moulin Rouge ensemble cast.

“Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor,” Megan said previously. “I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace. Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me.”
