Ray J Says He’s ‘Haunted’ By What the Public Now Knows About Diddy: ‘Now We’re In Private Business’
Ray J has emerged as one of the few high-profile voices who stood by hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs amid the music mogul’s mounting legal troubles. The singer/songwriter spoke out publicly, emphasizing loyalty and personal history over the controversy surrounding Combs. Recently, Ray J took to social media to share additional thoughts about Combs ahead of the mogul’s October 2025 sentencing date. Here’s what he said about now knowing too much about Combs’ “private business” and the broader implications it has for famous folks.
Ray J said learning about Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ ‘private business’ has ‘haunted’ him
Ray J’s connection to Sean “Diddy” Combs goes back years, with the two often moving in the same circles of music, nightlife, and business. Combs often mentored and collaborated with younger artists. And Ray J frequently credited him as a source of guidance and inspiration in navigating the entertainment industry. Recently, Ray J took to social media to discuss Combs and why he feels “haunted” by the mogul’s trial.
“The Diddy s***, it haunts me, because it’s like … now we know what this dude, and now we’re in his private business,” Ray J said, according to a clip posted to The Shade Room. “… Diddy didn’t teach us how to have freak-offs, you know? He didn’t teach us that. He taught us other things in business and how to be. And how to represent the culture. Now, he did some weird s***. And it wasn’t OK. At the end of the day, ya’ll, it’s crazy. Asking people what they’re doing in their private time?”
Ray J noted that other celebrities probably have private lives that would leave their fans “flabbergasted.”
“But that’s none of our f***ing business,” he continued. “And so now we’re in private business, and it’s got nothing to do with what we’re doing for work.”
“Asking are they gay or are they straight, it’s like, what in the f*** does that gotta do with anything?” Ray J added.
Ray J previously said he believes the mogul will walk free
Sean “Diddy” Combs only had a few outspoken supporters during his trial. Kanye “Ye” West posted in support of the mogul. And Ray J announced “Free Diddy” while speaking to Piers Morgan. While on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Ray J said he believes Combs will walk free. And he also doesn’t believe in seeing Combs “rot in jail.”
“This is where it starts to go overboard, and it’s like, whoever was mad at the top was really mad,” Ray J said. “And I think we’re here now, and I think it’s a flex. Because what are they trying to get out of this court case? Does everybody that’s talking about these stories, do they want to see Puffy rot in jail? Is that what we’re here for? Because I just think that that’s unfair … it just could’ve been done a different way. And now, it’s starting to worry me.”
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces sentencing in October 2025
Sean “Diddy” Combs is heading toward one of the most pivotal moments of his career and personal life. A federal judge is officially setting his sentencing for Oct. 3, 2025. The hip-hop mogul, who was convicted of two Mann Act violations but cleared of more severe sex trafficking and racketeering charges, now faces the reality of prison time.
While federal guidelines suggest Combs could spend four to five years behind bars, the minimum sentencing range dips closer to two years. Combs’ legal team has fought hard to sway the court in his favor, filing multiple bail motions and arguing that his mental health has suffered behind bars. So far, judges have been unmoved, repeatedly denying his requests for release and citing him as a potential flight risk.
