Teddi Mellencamp’s cancer journey has included multiple surgeries and rounds of immunotherapy since her diagnosis in 2022. After her melanoma metastasized, she’s been fighting the tumors in her brain and lungs wth the help of her doctors and several treatment plans. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star has been open about how challenging the process can be, explaining that immunotherapy often comes with difficult side effects but is crucial in helping her body fight the disease and lower the risk of recurrence. Alongside frequent biopsies and monitoring, these treatments reflect the aggressive approach her doctors have taken to manage her diagnosis.

On Aug. 21, 2025, RadarOnline reported that Mellencamp is pausing her immunotherapy treatments due to the intense side effects she’s experiencing. It’s unclear when she will resume them. However, she says, “everything’s looking good; everything’s shrinking.”

Immunotherapy works by strengthening the body’s natural defenses so the immune system can better detect and destroy cancer cells. Instead of directly targeting the tumors like chemotherapy does, this treatment trains immune cells to recognize cancer and attack it more aggressively. For conditions such as melanoma, immunotherapy can play a key role in slowing the spread of the disease and lowering the chances of it coming back.

Teddi Mellencamp recently asked her followers whether immunotherapy gave them ‘severe anxiety’

In August 2025, Teddi Mellencamp took to Instagram to ask her followers whether they experienced severe anxiety with immunotherapy treatments related to cancer.

“OK, for those of ya’ll who’ve gone through immunotherapy, did you have severe anxiety, just on random days for no apparent reason?” she asked her phone camera while lying in bed. “Like, today, I was able to walk, I did the podcast, and now I’m just sitting here full of anxiety. Is this common? What are things that you guys have done to help make you feel better? Let me know. Looking for any positive advice.”

In April 2025, Mellencamp admitted that it’s immunotherapy that’s “kicking her butt” when she thought it’d be radiation.

“Wednesday, I go in and get my next CAT scan, where they’ll find out if these recent tumors are getting smaller, and then I also get my third round of immunotherapy,” she told Extra at the time. “I always thought radiation was the one that was going to kick my butt, but it’s been immunotherapy.”

The ‘Real Housewives’ star said doctors found another ‘abnormal spot’ after a recent skin check

Teddi Mellencamp has words of advice for those with melanoma.

“If you have lung cancer, brain cancer, whatever, you still need to continue to get your skin checks, because yesterday, I went to go get a skin check, and I had an abnormal spot,” she said on her Two Ts in a Pod podcast on Aug. 20, 2025. “And so they removed it. They’re sending it in to get checked.”

Despite this worrying development, she gave “good news.”

“What I’m telling myself that means it’s OK is it’s in a new spot,” she continued. “All of my original melanomas were on my back. And this new spot is on my stomach. I just wanted to remind you guys, because I hadn’t gone in about six months for a particular skin check.”
