In 2023, viewers fell in love with Prime Video’s Red, White & Royal Blue. Now, a sequel to the fan-favorite rom-com is in the works. Here’s everything you need to know about Red, White & Royal Wedding.
Filming has begun on ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’
Red, White & Royal Blue follows the unexpected romance between British Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine) and Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of the U.S. president (played by Uma Thurman).
The movie was a massive hit on Prime Video after it was released in August 2023 and drove a large number of new subscribers to the streaming service. Deadline reported in May 2024 that a sequel was in the works, with an official announcement coming in October 2025, along with the news that the sequel would be titled Red, White & Royal Wedding.
Filming began on the move in January 2029.
“We’re SO beyond back. #RWRWedding is officially in production,” read an announcement from the official Red, White & Royal Blue Instagram account.
Galitzine and Perez will reprise their roles as Henry and Alex in the new movie. The rest of the cast has not been announced.
What is the ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ sequel about?
Plot details for Red, White & Royal Wedding are being kept under wraps. But it sounds like it won’t involve Henry and Alex saying “I do.”
“Welcome back!” Galtizine said in a video accompanying the announcement that the film was in production.
“Oh, I did want to say that we are here for Bea’s wedding,” Perez chimed in, referring to Henry’s younger sister Princess Beatrice, played by Ellie Bamber in the first movie.
Yeah, we just wanted to clarify, you know? Don’t get confused.” Galitzine added.
“We’re not getting married,” Perez said.
“That’s a long ways off at this point,” Galitzine said.
Is ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’ based on a book?
Red, White & Royal Blue is based on a best-selling 2019 romance novel by Casey McQuiston.
McQuiston has not written a sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue, leading to plenty of speculation about which direction a follow-up story could take. A bonus chapter in the collector’s edition of the novel features Alex and Henry engaged and living in Brooklyn. McQuiston did pen the script for the new movie, along with Gemma Burgess and Matthew López.
When will the ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ sequel be released?
Prime Video has not announced a release date for Red, White & Royal Wedding. According to Deadline, it may premiere later in 2026.
