‘RHOBH’ Star Dorit Kemsley Says She’s Flying Blind Financially Amid Divorce From PK Kemsley
Dorit Kemsley is in uncharted financial waters following her split from PK Kemsley.
During a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Dorit opened up about how PK took charge of their finances during their marriage, then blindsided her during their divorce negotiations.
Dorit Kemsley is ‘in the unknown’ when it comes to her finances
“For the last 14 years, PK’s been paying the lion’s share of our family outgoings,” she said in a confessional. “When we separated, he said that the finances would stay the same.”
But that arrangement didn’t last long.
“A month later, I got an email saying that he decided that he’s no longer going to do that,” Dorit said. “And I was like, ‘How can you change this all of a sudden?’ And his answer was, ‘I only agreed to that for one month.'”
Dorit confessed that when it came to her and PK’s shared finances, she was clueless. She said she didn’t know if they had any retirement or investment accounts. The Bravo star – who filed for divorce in April 2025 – also shared that while the couple’s home was in her name, he was responsible for paying the mortgage, which made her nervous.
“I have yet to discover everything,” Dorit admitted to her costars Bozoma St. John and Amanda Frances. “And I can tell you I’m in the unknown.”
Legal expert weighs in on ‘RHOBH’ star’s divorce drama
Dorit’s lack of financial knowledge is a red flag, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that PK is up to no good, an expert says
“When one spouse says they don’t have visibility over assets, accounts or investments, it often signals an imbalance of information rather than wrongdoing,” attorney Gideon Alper of Alper Law said in an email. “In divorce proceedings, courts focus on disclosure and transparency, not speculation.”
Legally, Dorit should be somewhat protected. In California, both parties are required to disclose assets during a divorce, noted Alper, added that he has no specific information about the Kelmsleys’ finances. And in a situation like Dorit’s, where one spouse is responsible for handling household payments, courts could step in to assess a support or expense-sharing arrangement.
While Dorit’s divorce is high-profile, her situation is not unique, Alper added.
“Celebrity divorces simply make visible what many couples experience privately,” he said. “The key lesson is that financial awareness matters, regardless of income level or public profile.”
Earlier this year, another legal expert predicted that Dorit might come out on the losing end in her split from her husband of 10 years.
“The financial resolution from this split will be interesting because it seems as if PK has been quite creative with how he has handled his businesses and incomes,” Lisa Robinson a divorce attorney with Rosen Law Firm told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “It looks like there will not be many assets to divide. It does not look like Dorit will receive any type of substantial settlement.”
PK and Dorit don’t have a prenup, she’s said, in part because when they tied the knot, he was “broke” following some serious financial setbacks.
“PK has made bold and controversial financial moves throughout his life; nothing should surprise us,” Robinson said.
“It does not seem that PK has been clear about his assets and liabilities for a long time,” she added.
