‘RHOM’ Is Not Canceled, Andy Cohen Promises: ‘Calm Down’
The Real Housewives of Miami is not canceled, Andy Cohen says.
In late March, it was reported that Bravo had put RHOM on pause, indefinitely. While not an official cancellation, a production pause is often a sign that the network has quietly given up on a show.
‘RHOM’ pause is ‘not a cancellation,’ Andy Cohen says
Now, Cohen is promising RHOM fans that the Florida-set series will not meet the same fate as The Real Housewives of Dallas or The Real Housewives of Dubai.
“It is not a cancellation,” Cohen told Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea at The Real Housewives of Rhode Island premiere party on March 30.
The Watch What Happens Live host acknowledged RHOM’s enthusiastic fanbase, who have made their displeasure with the pause known.
“We gotta get Miami back and then everybody will calm down. The fact that people are so passionate about the show ultimately makes me happy,” he said.
“I just want more people to watch it … If it was really up to me, we would be in production on everything all at once,” the Housewives producer added.
‘The Real Housewives of Miami’ struggled with low viewership
While RHOM has a loyal group of viewers, it’s struggled to match the popularity of other Housewives franchises such as The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. It’s the least-watched of all the Housewives shows, according to Variety.
Cohen argued that taking a break from filming could benefit RHOM. Bravo’s schedule is currently crowded with new and returning shows, including The Valley Season 3, a rebooted Ladies of London, and the latest Housewives series, RHORI. Giving the RHOM cast a break and picking up filming closer to when a new season might eventually air just makes sense, he argued.
“By the way, there’s also something to be said for, if they know they don’t have a slot for it for the next year and two months because we have all these other Housewives that are in production or … are slotted, then doesn’t it make sense to wait six months and then shoot it later so that it’s closer to when it airs?” he said.
Still, fans are understandably nervous about RHOM’s future. The show previously went in pause in 2013, after season 3. It took eight years for it to return, with season 4 premiering on Peacock in 2021.
While Cohen remains optimistic about the return of RHOM, there could be major changes if the show does come back for season 8. Drama among the current stars – including a defamation lawsuit Alexia Nepola’s ex-husband Todd Nepola filed against Bravo – could lead to a massive cast shakeup, similar to the network’s decision to inject new life into RHONY with season 16 in 2023. That reboot has met with a mixed reaction from fans.
