Rihanna’s family is growing! The singer is expecting her third child with boyfriend A$AP Rocky. She revealed the happy news at the Met Gala on May 5. 

So far, the Grammy winner is keeping her pregnancy relatively quiet. She hasn’t announced her due date or the baby’s gender. But that hasn’t stopped people from trying to predict what she might name baby no. 3. 

Rihanna may name her new baby Rebel 

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have two kids. Their eldest, a boy named RZA, was born in 2022. They welcomed a second boy, Riot, in 2023. 

The couple will probably go with another “R” name for their third child, the experts at VegasInsider predict. The site’s data team used Genius to scrape all of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s song lyrics and, using a predictive algorithm, assigned odds and an implied probability to a pool of baby name candidates.

That analysis produced a strong contender for baby no. 3’s name: Rebel. There’s a 54.5% implied probability that the “Umbrella” singer will select that name, according to VegasInsider’s betting analysis. Other top contenders include Rogue, Royal, Rayne, and Ryder. 

“Based on a full analysis of Rihanna’s lyrics — we’re talking thousands of words across dozens of tracks — one name keeps showing up with the right mix of edge and meaning: Rebel. It starts with R (just like RZA and Riot), shows up frequently in hip-hop lyrics, and has that same rebellious streak the couple has leaned into,” a VegasInsider spokesperson said in an email. “Other names like Rogue, Ryder, and Royal are in the conversation, but Rebel leads the pack right now — both stylistically and statistically.”

Rihanna ‘excited’ to welcome third child 

An “R” name for Rihanna’s little one is a virtual certainty. Both she and A$AP Rocky – whose real name is Rakim Mayers – have names that start with the letter, as do their two older children.

On May 7, A$AP Rocky was a guest on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Meyers quizzed the rapper about what he and Rihanna might christen the newest addition to their family. 

“Your first two kids have ‘R’ names, obviously you and Rihanna have ‘R’ names,” Meyers said. “Is this a lock that the third will have an ‘R’ name, do you think?”

“For sure,” he replied.

In an interview ahead of the Met Gala, Rocky said he was thrilled to finally share the baby news after months of keeping it under wraps. 

“It feels amazing, you know?” he told The Associated Press. “We were tired of holding that, and it was time to show the people what we was cooking up. I’m glad everybody’s happy for us, because we’re definitely happy.”

Meanwhile, Rihanna is looking forward to becoming a mom for a third time. 

“I’m good, shockingly feeling OK,” she told Entertainment Tonight on the Met Gala red carpet, “and not too overwhelmed at the moment.” 

“At first, I was kind of like…,” the “Umbrella” singer added, widening her eyes. “I’m tired but I’m excited.”
