Rihanna Posts Rare Photos of Her Sons as She Shares Glimpse Into Their Family Time in Barbados
Rihanna’s story begins on the sun-soaked island of Barbados, where she was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in 1988. Growing up in the parish of Saint Michael, she was raised in a tight-knit family. Her childhood was marked by her parents’ separation and her father’s struggles with addiction, challenges that fueled her determination to succeed. Most recently, she gave a glimpse into Barbados’ life with new Instagram photos featuring her two sons. Here’s what she posted.
Rihanna posted a rare glimpse of life in Barbados with her 2 sons, RZA and Riot
While Rihanna was once known for her status as a pop star, she’s now transitioned into a family woman. In 2025, she and A$AP Rocky welcomed their daughter, Rocki Irish. And the couple also has two young sons: RZA Athelston, born in May 2022, and Riot Rose, born in August 2023.
On Dec. 1, 2025, she gave fans a glimpse into her life in Barbados over the years. She posted Instagram photos from years past to celebrate her culture and heritage. In the compilation, she also included photos from her past pregnancies.
“Congratulations to Barbados, MY HOME, on our 59th year of Independence and our 4th year as a Republic!” she captioned the post. “Today also marks the installation of our 2nd President, His Excellency Lieutenant Colonel The Most Honorable Jeffrey Bostic, who alongside our Honorable Prime Minister Mia Mottley will continue to lead Barbados with excellence!! Barbados I LOVE YOU!!!!”
One photo shows Rihanna holding hands with RZA and carrying Riot during her third pregnancy with Rocki. Another image shows one of her sons sitting atop A$AP Rocky, who lies on the grass. Rihanna, who was pregnant at the time, sat next to him. The pop star also included a close-up of one of her sons holding a piece of a native plant.
Additional photos in the carousel include food from the island nation and Rihanna enjoying nature. She also posted a picture of her Barbados passport.
Rihanna previously discussed her ‘perfect’ childhood and possibly raising her kids in Barbados
In 2010, Kanye “Ye” West interviewed Rihanna for Interview Magazine. He asked her about her experience growing up in Barbados.
“It was perfect, really,” she said. “We really took it for granted, but we basically spent the entire day on the beach with summer all year round. It wasn’t special to us because that was just normal for Barbados, but after I moved to America and I experienced all these different seasons — and not only the seasons, but you don’t get to see the ocean, where it’s clear or it’s baby blue.”
Rihanna also discussed the possibility of raising her kids in Barbados, though this was before she had children.
“I would love to bring them up in Barbados,” she said. “But with the career that I have, I definitely can’t do that. I can’t live that far away from everything now, without kids, so I certainly couldn’t raise kids and do that with the demanding schedule that I have.”
The pop sensation said she wants to raise her kids to love nature and the outdoors
Rihanna doesn’t want to raise her kids as “tablet babies.” While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she noted that she “dreamed” of her father, Ronald Fenty, as a grandfather. Ronald died in May 2025.
“I’ve always dreamed of what type of grandfather he would be to them,” Rihanna noted. “[He] prepared me for having two boys, really. The adventurous side of me, the outside side of me, the daredevil — it’s how I want to raise them. I want them to be outside and in nature. No tablet babies.”
Whether Rihanna and A$AP Rocky choose to raise their kids in Barbados or not, they’ll certainly expose them to island life and the great outdoors.
