Rihanna’s New ’90s Bangs Don’t Compare to Her Dramatic 2024 Fringe
Rihanna’s hair has become as iconic as her music, evolving through bold reinventions that have defined entire eras of her career. From the edgy, jet-black pixie that dominated her Good Girl Gone Bad moment to the fire-engine red waves that sparked a global trend, the singer has never shied away from transforming her look to match her artistic moods. Over the years, she has cycled through blunt bangs, waist-length curls, natural textures, and high-fashion avant-garde cuts. Most recently, Rihanna debuted new ’90s bangs that have everyone talking. But the new fringe can’t compare to her 2024 look. Here’s what to know.
Rihanna debuted new ’90s bangs with a goth look in November 2025
Rihanna continues to turn heads in 2025. In the street, she channeled her signature luxe-comfort with oversized blazers from her own Fenty line, layered with relaxed silhouettes and elevated by bold accessories. She also tapped into retro revival trends with a 28-year-old Gucci snakeskin tote, nodding to fall 2025’s animal print moment.
Most recently, it’s her bangs that are causing a stir. On Nov. 3, 2025, Rihanna made waves with an ultra-bold haircut at the CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City. She stepped out in a sleek up-do paired with extra-long, jagged curtain bangs that nearly concealed her eyes, according to E! News. Her fringe, intentionally unpolished and piece-y, gave off a raw, edgy vibe that referenced emo and ’90s punk aesthetics. It was a dramatic departure, but totally in line with her fearless style.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky had a perfectly coordinated power-couple moment. Rihanna opted for a look from Alaïa’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection. She chose a sleek, floor-length black trench coat cinched at the waist over a turtleneck, paired with flowing white pleated trousers tucked elegantly into heels. Her diamonds added understated glamour to her structured ensemble.
Then, on Nov. 17, 2025, Rihanna fully leaned into a gothic, Matrix‑inspired aesthetic. InStyle reports that she emerged in a floor-grazing black leather trench coat layered over a sleek black maxi dress and sheer tights. Her signature long emo bangs (paired with a bob) obscured her eyes, further reminding her fans that her current fringe is here to stay.
Rihanna turned heads with dramatic, choppy bangs in 2024
Rihanna’s bangs in 2025 are taking the spotlight. However, her 2024 fringe might’ve been even bolder and more dramatic.
At the 2024 Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York City, Rihanna arrived in a custom Maison Alaïa white leather gown featuring a plunging V-neckline, dramatic ruching at the waist, a towering popped collar, and a thigh-high slit, according to Vogue. Her footwear only added to the moment. She wore strappy Manolo Blahnik sandals in white wrapped elegantly up her calves, giving a gladiatorial yet modern spin.
Rihanna elevated the outfit with a high up‑do, bangs framing her face, and a deep red lip. The choppy bangs hit right above her eyebrow and were even more in view with the rest of her hair out of the way.
The star has ‘fallen in love’ with her natural hair again
Rihanna recently discussed how she’s fully embracing her natural hair. While speaking on the Couch by Lena Situations podcast, she explained the “struggle” she has experienced while promoting Fenty Beauty’s haircare line.
“We’ve always been taught to love what you don’t have, especially when it comes to hair,” she explained. “If you have straight hair, you want it to be bigger. If you have big, curly hair, you want it to be straighter and thinner.”
“That was a struggle for me,” Rihanna added. “Falling in love with my hair again was the biggest inspiration for me to create this brand. I wanted products that not just worked, but more importantly, I wanted them to repair your hair and replenish your hair every step of the way.”
