Meghan Markle ‘Digs Her Heels In’ as Prince Harry ‘Tries to Put the Brakes’ on Her U.S. Holiday Plans
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly arguing over the holiday plans. An unnamed source told Closer that Markle wants to head back to California around Thanksgiving and stay there through Christmas. Harry, though, wants the family to “stay put at least until Spring.”
The source said Markle thought she could head back to California whenever she wanted. “That was a big part of what made her comfortable taking the leap in the first place,” the insider stated. Now, according to the source, Markle is annoyed because Harry is “trying to put the brakes on it.”
The Sussexes only recently moved back to the U.K. with their kids. Both Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet also started school there. But their first school didn’t work out. The kids were there for just two days. Harry and Markle then moved them to another school.
Their security team had concerns about the daily school run. Heavy traffic was making things even harder. At times, the security cars couldn’t stay together on the road. So, the family later settled the kids in another school.
But on September 30, two men were reportedly spotted around the school. They had backpacks and were seen looking into the school grounds. The men later went back to a white van. Police checked the vehicle and reportedly found that it was a rental.
According to ITV, police identified one of the men as an international photographer working for a European press agency. Harry and Markle’s spokesperson called the incident “extraordinarily reckless” and an “unacceptable intrusion.” Considering that, flying back and forth for the holidays may not be that simple.
“With the kids in school, they can’t keep bouncing between California and the U.K. whenever they feel like it,” the source said. Moreover, Harry and Markle reportedly won’t automatically be invited to the family gathering at Sandringham.
One source previously claimed Prince William could even skip it to avoid being around the couple. Markle reportedly isn’t interested, either. “Meghan can’t think of anything worse than hanging around hoping the royals might squeeze them in somewhere over Christmas.”
The source added, “She knows they’re not going to be sitting down at Sandringham like everything’s suddenly fine, and frankly she doesn’t want to spend the holidays making uncomfortable small talk with William and Kate and a bunch of other people who’ve made it pretty clear how they feel about them.”
The insider continued, “That would mean having to endure days on end faking it with the Waleses and that’s a pretty grim prospect; there’s no doubt it would ruin Christmas for Meghan.” Harry reportedly sees it very differently.
The tipster said, “Harry hates the idea of leaving England over Christmas, it’s one of his favorite times of year and he worries that if they travel back to the US, it will look like they’re giving up and choosing to miss out on time with his father.”
The Duke also reportedly wants to “spend the holiday with Charles Spencer and Diana’s side of the family and hopefully pop in for a visit with Charles and Camilla and the children.” Markle, meanwhile, reportedly wants Christmas with her mom, Doria Ragland, in Montecito. The source noted Markle is now “digging her heels in.”
