‘Scars Stick Around Forever’: Prince Harry Sends Blunt Message to King Charles and Prince William
Prince Harry has opened up about his strained relationships with King Charles III and Prince William. He admitted he still misses the bond they once shared. Now, he wants to fix things with his family. “Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out,” Harry told GQ in an interview published on October 20.
Journalist Zach Baron spoke with him in New York in late September. Asked if he grieves his relationship with his father and brother, Harry replied, “Yeah, yes.” He added, “Of course, from a family perspective, again another massively relatable issue for so many people.”
The Duke of Sussex spoke about sibling arguments and parents falling out with their children. He said people often bring up these problems when they talk to him. Harry also said, “The most important thing is to reconcile,” especially “With everything else that’s going on in the world.”
He knows family wounds, “Scars stick around forever.” Harry noted, “What your perception is and what your mindset is to these things that have happened, certainly letting go of the past, that’s something that I would encourage everybody to do.”
Harry stated that there’s already enough drama in the world and in people’s lives. He doesn’t think family disputes need to drag on, too. The interview also covered Harry’s childhood grief, his rocky relationship with the press, and his efforts to take control of his public image.
His comments led to questions about whether he was taking a swipe at his family. However, according to ABC News, a spokesperson said, “It was absolutely not intended as a swipe at his brother or any other member of his family.” They added, “The comment was made in a general context and was not directed at his family in any way.”
Harry also spoke about returning to the U.K. with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He said their attitude toward past problems had changed. By speaking openly about their experiences, Harry hopes to make things easier for others. He knows this might not stop the behavior, though.
“It’s not going to necessarily stop the behaviour, but I think the behaviour might – my hope is that it will – change,” he said. Harry also talked about the disputes over the years since he left the royal family in 2020. “What happened back then was then. What’s happened over the last six years has been a continuation of that,” he continued.
He hopes his family and parts of the British press can leave old issues behind and work toward the greater good. The interview came on the same day Charles, Queen Camilla, William, and Kate Middleton welcomed Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman to Windsor.

The King greeted the Sultan outside Windsor and Eton Riverside station in heavy autumn rain. The day’s royal schedule included a state banquet at Windsor Castle. William had earlier met the Omani ruler at his London residence before accompanying him to Windsor.
