Sussexes’ Empty Montecito Mansion Faces ‘Threat’ After Neighbor Calls Prince Harry a ‘Jerk’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly concerned that their California mansion could be targeted by burglars while they are away. The couple moved back to Britain with their children on August 26 after nearly six years in Montecito. Harry and Markle still own their Montecito mansion, which they bought in 2020. They reportedly even plan to visit it regularly.
Meanwhile, the staff look after the property and their beloved chickens. Their immediate local concern is “the threat from wildfires and the disasters.” The source added that ‘they are also worried the home could be targeted by thieves in their absence.’
The insider added, “Their home remains extremely important to them, so being on another continent while authorities are strengthening precautions naturally brings home how little control they have if an emergency develops.”
The report came after Harry’s former neighbor Bruce Johnston called him a “jerk.” The former Beach Boys member reportedly suggested that Harry had returned to Britain to “tell his brother he’s sorry.”
Discussing the remarks on the Daily Expresso podcast, host JJ Anisiobi said, “Their neighbours are sick of them, and you will not believe what they called Harry. They said Prince Harry is a jerk. And this ain’t anyone, this is a very wealthy neighbour of theirs.” Commentator Mark Dolan added, “This is another talented person who sees through the Sussexes.”
According to the Daily Express U.S., Piers Morgan, Noel Gallagher, Martha Stewart, and Donald Trump have been “prominent” critics of the couple. Interior designer Penny Bianchi told The Sun that Harry and Markle were “not popular” in Montecito. She also alleged they pulled Prince Archie out of school at the last minute. Teachers, she said, found out about the move along with everyone else.
Meanwhile, the pair is focused on settling Archie and Princess Lilibet into school in Britain. A source told People, “There is a lot to do. They have just moved halfway across the world and it’s been really busy getting the kids settled. Everything else will fall into place when the time is right.”
The children reportedly changed schools after security concerns. The family made the move just days after starting at their new school. According to the BBC, their spokesperson said, “The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements.”

Separately, their new U.K. community had faced criticism, too. Residents told the Express that the Duke and Duchess “should be banned.” Others called them “awful and a disgrace.” The family’s exact address still remains private.
They are believed to live outside London, possibly in the Cotswolds. Amid all this, Markle recently shared a video of the family enjoying the British countryside. Harry was seen fishing with the children, followed by a woodland walk.
