At just 8 years old, Rumi Carter is already carving out her own space in the spotlight, following in the footsteps of her superstar mother, Beyoncé. In 2024, Rumi made her musical debut on the track “Protector” from Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album, sweetly opening the song with, “Mom, can I hear the lullaby, please?” That milestone, joined recently by on‑stage appearances alongside her sister and mom during the 2025 “Cowboy Carter” tour, signals a rising generation of the Carter legacy. So, is Rumi destined for stardom? Here’s what to know about the record she broke, previously held by her older sister.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s kids are anything but ordinary. Rumi Carter made history by becoming the youngest female artist ever to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard reported in 2024. Her debut came courtesy of her appearance on the song “Protector,” a track from her mother’s critically acclaimed album, Cowboy Carter, which entered the chart at No. 42. That effortless leap onto one of music’s most prestigious charts marks a remarkable debut for someone so young.

The milestone is all the more meaningful given the record she broke. Until Rumi’s debut, the youngest female artist to chart was her own sibling, Blue Ivy Carter, who did so in 2019 at age 7 with “Brown Skin Girl.”

When Beyoncé won album of the year at the 2025 Grammy Awards, she forgot to thank daughter Rumi for her contributions. While catching up with Entertainment Tonight after the ceremony, the star rectified her mistake by giving Rumi a shoutout. She also mentioned how happy she was that Blue Ivy was able to see her solidify a win with the album.

“I’m so happy that she was here and Rumi, who was on the album, my youngest daughter, she was watching,” Beyoncé said. “I forgot to thank her, so I can thank her now. Thank you, Rumi!”

Rumi stole the spotlight during Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ tour

When Beyoncé launched her “Cowboy Carter” tour in April 2025, the concert instantly became a family affair. For the first time, 7‑year‑old Rumi Carter joined her mom on stage. She made her live‑performance debut during the tender ballad “Protector.” Draped in a shimmering gold mini‑dress and matching cowboy boots, Rumi emerged from backstage hand in hand with her older sister, Blue Ivy Carter, radiating pure joy.

The appearance wasn’t just a quick cameo. The moment was imbued with heartfelt meaning. The “Protector” audio snippet that included Rumi was played live on stage. As Beyoncé performed, she paused mid‑song to gaze lovingly at Rumi, drawing a wave of audience applause when she introduced her. “Give it up for Rumi, y’all,” the proud mother said.

The public reaction was immediate and emotional. Video clips from the show quickly went viral, capturing Rumi’s beaming smile and joyful wave to the crowd. While Blue Ivy remained poised, it was Rumi’s reaction to joining her mother and sibling on stage that had everyone cheering.

Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, believes her granddaughter is already an ‘amazing artist’

Tina Knowles is Beyoncé’s biggest fan and frequently sings her praises. Additionally, she knows just how talented her grandchildren are. While speaking to E! News in 2024, she gave a rare update on Rumi and Sir Carter.

“Rumi is amazing — an amazing artist, painter, and creator,” Knowles said while at the Kentucky Derby. “How could they be anything else growing up in that environment? All we talk about is creativity and fashion.”

As for Sir, it’s unclear if he’ll ever want to take the spotlight. “Sir is very quiet,” she continued, noting that he “does all of the numbers stuff, so he’s not into fashion as much.”
