Rumor Suggests Diddy Paid NYPD to Chase Jennifer Lopez When She Tried to Get Away, Danity Kane Member Says
Before they became global icons, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jennifer Lopez were one of the most talked-about power couples of the late ’90s. Their whirlwind relationship reached its peak just as both stars were rising to new heights in music, fashion, and film. But their romance also had controversy. Most notably, they had involvement in a 1999 nightclub shooting in New York. This landed Combs in legal trouble and tested Lopez’s public image. Now, the public has renewed interest in their relationship with Combs’ trial. Here’s what Danity Kane member D. Woods said about a rumor she heard regarding Lopez trying to get away from Combs.
Danity Kane member D. Woods said she heard a rumor that suggested Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs paid to have Jennifer Lopez chased
As Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial nears its conclusion, two of his former protégés — Aubrey O’Day and D. Woods of Danity Kane — have broken their silence. O’Day, who met Combs during the Making the Band era, slammed him as “selfish” for his courtroom tactics. She argued he prioritized optics over the wellness of his kids as he faces charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking by force. Meanwhile, D. Woods has recounted feeling like “a piece of meat” under his management.
In an episode of iHeartRadio’s Aubrey O’Day, Covering The Diddy Trial, the two women discussed their experiences on Making the Band. They also offered their thoughts on Combs as his trial comes to an end. Before they ended the podcast episode, D. Woods addressed a rumor regarding Combs and Jennifer Lopez. Lopez and Combs dated from 1999 to 2001 and had involvement in a high-profile nightclub shooting that many researched during Combs’ trial.
Aubrey O’Day asked Woods about the craziest rumor they ever heard about Combs in the past. According to Woods, rumors suggested that Combs sent the NYPD after Lopez when she tried to escape him.
“That he had paid officers from NYPD running around, chasing J.Lo to find her around New York City,” Woods recounted. “She was trying to get away from him.”
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lawyers allegedly fought to exclude evidence of the nightclub shooting from the trial
In December 1999, music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jennifer Lopez were swept into a media firestorm. After a reported altercation between Combs’ entourage and another partygoer, a gun was fired inside the packed nightclub, injuring three people. Combs, Lopez, and rapper Shyne fled the scene in a Lincoln Navigator. Police found a loaded gun in the vehicle, and all three were arrested. While Lopez was quickly cleared of any wrongdoing, Combs faced charges, including illegal gun possession and bribery. He was ultimately acquitted at trial in 2001.
According to DailyMail.com, Combs’ lawyers fought to exclude evidence from the nightclub shooting in Combs’ current trial. Combs’ former chauffeur, Wardel Fenderson, who witnessed the shooting, previously gave testimony suggesting Combs tried to bribe him with a $50,000 ring. The ring was never found. “Assuming the story is true would be a ‘fantastical assumption,’” Combs’ lawyers stated.
Jennifer Lopez’s link to the hip-hop mogul became a ‘PR disaster’ for her
In October 2024, sources claimed Jennifer Lopez hoped to “run” from answering any questions about Sean “Diddy” Combs. Lopez and Ben Affleck pursued a divorce at the time.
“Jennifer knows everyone is asking what she knew about Diddy — and it’s clear she’s on the run from answering any of it,” a source told RadarOnline. “Her links to him resurfacing are a PR disaster for her and damaging her own health, as it’s adding to her already massive stress levels as she goes through her divorce from Affleck. But sooner or later, she is going to have to sit down and say what she knew — as she could even be called as a witness at Diddy’s trial.”
The prosecution ultimately never called Lopez as a witness.
