Sabrina Carpenter and Madonna’s Coachella Set Proved Beauty Rules Are Changing
During the second weekend of Coachella, Sabrina Carpenter welcomed Madonna onstage as a special guest. The pair performed together. According to a beauty expert, they also proved that beauty rules are changing. She shared how the performance pushed back against outdated beauty rules.
Sabrina Carpenter brought Madonna out on stage with her at Coachella
During Carpenter’s headlining performance at Coachella, Carpenter shocked the crowd when she welcomed Madonna onto the stage. They performed “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer,” as well as music from Madonna’s upcoming album Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II.
“I was in the dance tent, and it was the first time I performed Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part I in America,” Madonna said, per Entertainment Weekly. “So you can imagine what a thrill to be back 22 years later in the same boots, in the same corset… the jacket I had on earlier, the same Gucci jacket? So it’s a full circle moment, you know? Very meaningful for me.”
Sabrina Carpenter and Madonna showed the way beauty crosses generational lines
In the past month, searches for both Carpenter’s and Madonna’s hair and beauty have been up. A beauty expert said that these searches say a lot about beauty and style inspiration.
“Sabrina Carpenter is driving huge beauty interest, especially around hair, while Madonna still holds real influence when it comes to fashion and statement styling,” said Danielle Louise, a beauty expert on the Fresha platform. “When the two come together on stage, it creates a moment that feels bigger than nostalgia. It reflects how beauty and style inspiration is now moving across generations rather than staying in one lane.”
She noted that Madonna and Carpenter’s aesthetics feel at home together.
“We’re seeing a blend of eras right now,” she said. “Gloss, volume, visible styling and more playful glamour are all coming through again, but people are wearing them in a way that feels personal rather than overly polished or costume-like.”
Lousie believes that the performance pushes back against the idea that beauty rules belong to young people.
“It challenges the idea that bold beauty belongs to youth, or that women should tone things down with age. What people are responding to now is confidence, individuality and recognisable personal style,” she said, adding, “What this shows is that audiences are not looking for one type of beauty anymore. They are responding to contrast, character and looks that feel memorable. That is why a moment like this cuts through so quickly.”
The ‘Like a Prayer’ singer lost her costume after the performance
After the performance, Madonna spoke glowingly about sharing the stage with Carpenter.
“Still flying high since Friday night at Coachella!” she said in a statement on April 20. “Thank you to Sabrina and everyone who made it possible. Bringing Confessions II back to where it began was such a thrill!”
Unfortunately, though, the clothing she wore during the show vanished afterward.
“This full circle moment hit different until I discovered that the vintage pieces that I wore went missing — my costume that was pulled from my personal archives — jacket, corset, dress, and all other garments. These aren’t just clothes, they are part of my history. Other archival items from the same era went missing as well.”
She encouraged anyone with knowledge about her costumes to contact her team.
