Sarah Paulson Shares a Surprising Take on Kim Kardashian as Critics Slam Hulu’s ‘All’s Fair’
Sarah Paulson’s long-standing collaboration with writer/director Ryan Murphy has led her to another drama — this time a legal one. As the American Horror Story actress promotes All’s Fair, she’s revealing more about her dynamic with the A-list cast, which includes Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash‑Betts, Teyana Taylor, and Glenn Close. While appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Paulson shared the most surprising thing she’s learned about Kardashian.
Sarah Paulson and Kim Kardashian bonded while filming ‘All’s Fair’
Like many esteemed actresses, Sarah Paulson is a longtime Bravo fan. Recently, she appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to discuss all things Real Housewives, as WWHL shared on Instagram. Alongside fellow guest, RHOSLC‘s Bronwyn Newport, Paulson fielded a question from a fan. The audience member wanted to know the most surprising thing about Kim Kardashian and which Kardashian-Jenners visited the All’s Fair set.
Paulson said Kris Jenner was the only family member she saw on-set. “That’s how we got to have our big Glenn Close Fatal Attraction watch party at Kris’s house,” the American Crime Story actress said, calling the viewing party “one of the great experiences of my life.” Paulson was referring to the impromptu gathering Kris held after learning that Kim had never seen the 1987 thriller. The All’s Fair cast assembled to watch it with Close herself, who realized that the movie still “holds up incredibly well,” according to People.
Then, Paulson shared that Kardashian has a “really, really, really great sense of humor.” She continued, “We laughed a lot. I spit on her face once accidentally in a scene where I’m screaming at her.” Paulson explained that she accidentally spit a popcorn kernel at Kardashian, who made a funny expression before bursting out laughing. “We really had a laughing problem,” Paulson, who plays Carrington Lane in the legal drama, stated. “We got in trouble with Glenn Close, and we had to walk it out to stop laughing.”
Paulson also revealed that her character dresses up like Kardashian’s character later in the season, saying she “never looked hotter.”
Critics brutally panned ‘All’s Fair,’ but some viewers like the ‘absurd’ show
Created by Murphy alongside Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, All’s Fair follows a team of high-powered female divorce attorneys in Los Angeles. The “fierce, brilliant, and emotionally complicated” team breaks away from their male-dominated firm to establish their own all-female practice. All’s Fair highlights their breakups, scandals, and shifting loyalties both in the courtroom and between themselves.
The cast is star-studded. At the center is Kardashian as Allura Grant, the firm’s founder. Supporting her are Watts (Liberty Ronson), Nash‑Betts (Emerald Greene), Taylor (Milan), Paulson (Carrington Lane), and Close (Dina Standish).
On the reception front, All’s Fair has been widely and brutally panned by critics. The aggregator Rotten Tomatoes lists a 5% approval. Several major publications issued zero-star reviews. The Guardian called it “fascinatingly, incomprehensibly, existentially terrible.” Criticism has focused on the series’ writing, stiff performances, particularly Kardashian’s, and tone issues.
Despite the critical drubbing, the show has experienced strong viewership in part thanks to the buzz around how bad it is. One fan wrote on Threads, “I’ve been a bit down of late, and I must say, ‘All’s Fair’ was the perfect ridiculous escapism… Yes, it’s completely absurd … but boy did it work like a happy drug.” Another user wrote, “So far All’s Fair is so corny. I’m literally watching for the fashion and aesthetics cos the writing isn’t it.”
While All’s Fair boasts a high-profile cast and a glitzy “woman-in-power” premise, it has largely failed to impress critics. Whether it’s destined to become a cult guilty pleasure or a cautionary tale remains to be seen.
