On May 5, 2025, jury selection began in one of the most high-profile cases involving hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. Potential jurors underwent an unusually extensive screening process that reflected the media spectacle surrounding him.

Prospective members of the jury were asked whether they recognized or had strong opinions about a list of nearly 200 public figures — including celebrities, industry executives, and potential witnesses — underscoring the case’s far-reaching connections within the entertainment world. Thus far, the public has access to a few of the names on the list.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ case has officially begun. With jury selection underway, 150 potential jurors submitted a questionnaire to gauge their knowledge surrounding Combs. The possible jurors answered questions about the mogul himself and their opinions regarding law enforcement. They were also asked if they had ever experienced sexual assault. Ultimately, the trial will include 12 jurors and six alternates.

According to Variety, the potential jurors were given a list of 190 celebrities and public figures. The jurors received instructions to indicate which names they recognized from the list.

So, which names made the list? Names included Michael B. Jordan, Kanye “Ye” West, Mike Myers, Kid Kudi, Michelle Williams (of Destiny’s Child fame), Lauren London, Dawn Richard, singer-producer Dallas Austin, and many of Combs’ family members. The publication notes that many of the potential jurors noted that they did not have any familiarity with the names listed.

Prosecutors have reportedly interviewed over 50 witnesses so far.

Several women who once dated Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will testify

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ former sexual partners, a business associate, and a male sex worker will testify in his upcoming trial, and at least four of the witnesses testifying have already filed civil lawsuits against Combs.

“These are not new allegations or new accusers,” Combs’ attorneys told CNN. “These are the same individuals, former long-term girlfriends, who were involved in consensual relationships. This was their private sex life, defined by consent, not coercion.”

We can’t say for sure which former sexual partners the attorneys called. However, the public speculated that Jennifer Lopez might testify, as she had an intense relationship with Combs from 1999 to 2001. Police arrested her and Combs following a nightclub shooting in 1999.

Other possible former lovers include Sarah Chapman, the mother of Combs’ son, Chance; Yung Miami, whom Combs dated in 2022; and Dana Tran, the mother of Combs’ daughter, Love.

Combs’ ex, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, plans to testify using her real name. Court documents name the other key witnesses as  “Victim-2,” “Victim-3,” and “Victim-4.”

The jury pool is more ‘sophisticated than average,’ an attorney says

Mark A. Weissman, a principal attorney in Offit Kurman’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group, explained more about Sean “Diddy” Combs’ jury in an email to Showbiz Cheat Sheet.

“Because of the venue, the overall jury pool for this court is generally a little more sophisticated than average,” Weissman commented. “Just by way of example, they were able to seat a Manhattan jury for someone like Donald Trump. I think they will be able to seat a jury for Diddy’s trial. And the jurors will fill out questionnaires before they meet the judge, which will help the judge to further limit the pool to jurors who have limited knowledge about the case and the participants.”
