Selena Gomez has been an actor since childhood and transitioned into being a singer during her time on Disney Channel. In recent years, Gomez has expanded her career in several directions. She is the founder of Rare Beauty, and she loves the work she has done with the high-value cosmetics company. She even joked that she was sorry her other work took her away from Rare.

Selena Gomez joked that she’s sorry she became an actor and singer

Gomez launched Rare Beauty in 2020. The company is now worth over $2 billion and continues to expand its reach with new products. Gomez said she’s very proud of the work she has done with the company.

“What I’m most proud of is the conversation that we’ve created in the beauty space,” she told People. “I feel like we were challenging the norms, and I really wanted to create a brand that was for everyone.”

While Gomez likes her more artistic roles, she recently joked to Rare employees that she wished she could spend all her time at the company.

“I’m sorry that I decided to be an actor and a singer now,” she said, per Allure, “because I wish all of my time could be here.”

Selena Gomez has been an actor since childhood

Gomez has been an actor and singer for far longer than she’s been at the helm of a cosmetics company. She had her first role on Barney and Friends when she was just 10 years old. At just 14, she became a star when she booked a role on Wizards of Waverly Place. While she likes her line of work, she is glad her younger sister does not want to follow a similar path. Instead, she is focused on being a kid.

“My favorite part about her, though, is that she wants nothing to do with my [other] job. I was so worried when I had a sister…I didn’t want anything to cloud her vision,” she said. “But she’s such a kid being a kid. I didn’t get to do that. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but I’m just glad she has a bit of a childhood.”

Gomez said she still likes acting

While Gomez might have some mixed feelings about childhood stardom, she said she will always love acting. She loves that her fame has allowed her to pick interesting projects.

“Music will always be in my soul, but I never really got to spend enough time in the field that I originally wanted to be in,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “And I’ve been very strategic and trying my hardest to pick projects that are going to be compelling and not necessarily what people would envision me doing. That’s something I get a high off of.”

Gomez currently stars in Only Murders in the Building on Hulu.
