The missing case of Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is now being treated as a crime scene
Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on Feb. 1. According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos during a press conference, a friend from Nancy’s church noticed her missing. Nancy had last been seen on Jan. 31, 2026, around 9:30 p.m., at her home near Tucson, Arizona, People reports.
Nancy’s family went to check on her before calling emergency services. Officials then conducted a search-and-rescue mission with helicopters, drones, and dogs.
“We get these calls quite often, and we do a good job of searching the area,” Nanos said during the conference. “But, this one stood out because of what was described to us at the scene and what we found and located just in looking at the scene.” The sheriff went on to say that the authorities “can’t ignore” what they found.
“She did not leave on her own, we know that,” Nanos said, according to ABC13.
As of Feb. 2, 2026, sheriffs are treating Nancy’s disappearance as a “crime scene.” Sgt. David Stivers from the sheriff’s department’s homicide team also noted that his investigators found “circumstances on scene” that were “suspicious in nature.”
“This is an 84-year-old lady who suffers from some physical ailments, has some physical challenges, is in need of medication — medication that, if she doesn’t have in 24 hours, it could be fatal,” Nanos stated.
He urged anyone with information to call 911 and share any leads.
