‘Sister Wives’ Star Kody Brown Admits He’s ‘Suspicious’ of His Kids, Claims He Can’t Repair Relationships While Show Is Still Filming
Kody Brown was in the hot seat during the Special Forces reunion.
The Sister Wives star and other alums from the Fox reality series sat down with The Viall Files host Nick Viall to talk about their time on the competition show. But Kody found himself fielding some tough questions about his fraught relationship with his kids.
Kody Brown worries his kids are talking about him behind his back
“Life is a process. And I’m reaching, and if my hand is slapped when I reach, I wait. And then I’ll wait awhile and then reach again,” Kody said after Viall asked if he felt he had a responsibility to make amends with his 17 living children.
Communication with his estranged children moves forward in fits and starts, the TLC personality added.
“You start to heal things, and then you don’t get a call back for a week, and then another, and then another,” he said. “And you’re wondering what’s going on in their healing. So you become very suspicious. Are my kids talking about me and are they all making an agreement?”
“I have a good relationship with many of my children,” he continued. “It’s just a process.”
The drawn-out breakup of three of his four marriages further strained his relationships with some of his kids, Kody said, and while he’s hoping to make things better, he fears that might not be possible.
“I’m afraid I probably can’t do that while I’m still on TV … and so I reach out, but not on TV. When I do reach out on TV, it’s very difficult,” he shared.
‘Sister Wives’ star admits he is closest to Robyn Brown’s kids
Kody went on to confess that he was closest to the children he shares with his current wife, Robyn Brown.
“I’ve got five children right here, right next to me. And they’re very engaging. So there’s a tendency for me to put a lot of effort where it’s effective.”
Viall’s wife and podcast co-host Natalie Joy Viall pushed back on some of Kody’s comments, telling him that as the father, it was his job to take the lead in fixing the damaged dynamic with his offspring. He insisted he was doing that, but he also made it clear that he was still harboring some serious resentment toward some of his kids.
“I find myself very often feeling motivated to apologize for things I don’t feel like I should own …. It’s very painful,” he said.
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC and also stream on HBO Max. All episodes of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test Season 4 are streaming on Hulu.
