‘Sister Wives’ Star Janelle Brown Says TLC Show Didn’t Show Her True Self: ‘So Many Pieces’ Didn’t Make It to the Screen

The Sister Wives star has recently been opening up about embracing a new chapter of life following the end of her polyamorous marriage to Kody Brown, the tragic death of her son Garrison Brown, and a major move from Utah to North Carolina. She’s also decided to help others who are going through a similar season of change with her new business, Second Chapter Coaching.

“When I first made the decision to start over, I really thought it meant walking away from everything… like I had to burn it all down just to build something new,” Janelle wrote on Instagram in mid-December. “But the more I walked through it, the more I realized I didn’t need a whole new life. I just needed someone who understood what it felt like to be in that blurry in-between… wanting change, but also wanting to stay grounded in who I really am.”

“That’s what made me create Second Chapter Coaching,” the TLC personality continued. “It wasn’t about reinventing myself or anyone else … it was about helping women remember the parts of themselves they’ve ignored or silenced for years. The things that make them feel alive again.”

Janelle added that she wanted other people to understand that they didn’t need to “throw away your whole story to feel at peace.” Instead, they needed “clarity, support, and someone who won’t rush your process.”

Meri Brown cheers on her ‘Sister Wives’ co-star

Janelle’s message clearly struck a chord with her followers, who called her a “rockstar” and a “strong woman.” Her words also resonated with Meri.

“When we start over, we’re not starting from the beginning this time. We’re starting with experience!” she commented. Janelle reacted with a heart eyes emoji.

Meri’s words were especially striking given that she and Janelle did not always see eye-to-eye when they were sister wives. But since both have left their former husband Kody Brown, they’ve forged something of an alliance as they battled their ex over the family’s Coyote Pass property. While the pair are unlikely to ever become close friends, it now seems that they’re able to be cordial and wish each other the best in their new endeavors.

For Janelle, taking on new projects comes as she sheds other things in her life that no longer serve her. In a December 21 Instagram post, she confirmed that she was “leaving the show.”

Janelle added that she had reached a “shedding point” and was ridding herself of “pld expectations. Old versions of myself. Old identities that were never really mine.

“Shedding feels painful while you’re in it, but on the other side you realize you didn’t lose yourself… you uncovered her,” she wrote.
