Meri Brown’s catfishing scandal is still causing drama on Sister Wives. 

It’s been more than a decade since Kody Brown’s first wife fell into an online relationship with a woman posing as a man. The incident caused considerable stress in Meri and Kody’s marriage, with Kody saying he never fully regained trust in his wife after her emotional affair. 

Now, Meri is revealing more details about the catfishing incident, including the role that one of her sister wives played in the drama. In part four of the Sister Wives Season 20 tell-all, which airs February 1, Meri says that she revealed intimate details of her relationship with the catfish to Robyn Brown. Robyn then exacerbated an already difficult situation by talking about Meri’s business with a friend who was in touch with the catfish.

The catfish incident took place not long after Kody legally divorced Meri so that he could wed Robyn and adopt her kids from a previous relationship. While the divorce was difficult for Meri, she trusted Robyn, even going so far as to confide in her sister wife about her online relationship. That turned out to be a mistake, she explained to tell-all host Sukanya Krishnan. 

“There were times that I would have a conversation with Robyn that the catfish would find out about,” Meri says in a clip from the upcoming Sister Wives episode that was shared on Instagram.

According to Meri, Robyn was blabbing about her private business to a friend. That friend was “in communication with the catfish,” she said.

“There was a huge lack of trust there because my private conversations that I was having with Robyn…,” Meri added. “And I don’t believe she did it intentionally to try to hurt me. I think she did it to try to help the situation. But she kept making it worse and kept making it worse by sharing the information.”

Once Meri realized what was going on, she begged Robyn to be more discreet. 

“I even kept saying to her, ‘Don’t talk. Don’t talk,’” she said. 

But Robyn would not listen.

“I would ask her not to, and she’s like, ‘I’m trying to help,’” Meri recalled. “But you’re not helping. It’s not helping. Just stop talking.”

In another clip from the tell-all finale (via Us Weekly), it’s clear that Robyn has a different memory of the catfishing incident. She agrees that Meri confided in her about the catfish. But she says she just alerted Kody to the seriousness of what was going on with his first wife. 

“All I know is that she was having a conversation online about flowers and texting and music and flirting and I was like, ‘She is struggling. Get your butt over there. Figure this out with her,’” Robyn claims.

Any meddling was done with the best of intentions, Robyn adds. 

“That’s what I was doing, OK? She’s sitting here saying that she can’t trust me because of this or that,” Robyn says. “I had her freaking back.” 

Part 4 of the Sister Wives Season 20 tell-all airs February 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
