Stewart McLean was found dead days after going missing from his home
Stewart McLean was reported missing on May 18, three days after he was last seen at his home in Lions Bay, British Columbia. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police took over the investigation, initially considering it a missing person’s case. That classification changed quickly.
On May 20, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over the investigation and announced that evidence suggested McLean had been the victim of a homicide. Investigators said evidence pointed their investigation in that direction, but stopped short of sharing what that evidence was.
Two days after the announcement, his remains were recovered in Lions Bay. According to Variety, additional teams were brought in to assist IHIT. The investigation is now focused on collecting evidence and scouring CCTV footage to better understand the days leading up to McLean’s disappearance. It is unclear if investigators believe McLean’s killer was known to him.
A look back at the actor’s career
Stewart McLean wasn’t exactly a breakout star, but a working actor well known for appearing in various roles on popular TV shows and in several blockbuster movies. McLean landed roles in Supernatural, Arrow, and Blue Steele. He also appeared in Murder in a Small Town and even landed a role in season 7 of Virgin River. The brief stint on the acclaimed Netflix series would be his last acting credit.
In a chilling moment of irony, McLean also appeared in the Paramount+ true crime series Happy Face. The series was based on Melissa Moore’s story, a woman who discovered her father was a notorious serial killer. Moore’s father, Keith Jesperson, is best known as the Happy Face Killer.
McLean’s family has not issued an official statement since his death.
